Sorry mate!! still love the detail on the Walrus aircraft, still deciding whether to block of the hangar door and omit the aircraft, mind you adding the aircraft would add something else to look at

I agree, seems a waste, your not going to see it unless you get a magnifying glass out. Still at least you will know its there!!

I am getting really hacked off with the etch    In this scale, stuff like the 20mm Oerlikons are impossible to do (for me)    This is becoming a very frustrating build

Ratch, I found that too when I first tried, what I did was get a few pairs of tweezers and file / grind them down a bit worked a treat.  Also I only did one or two bits a day so as to not get too much eye strain, a clean work area is essential together with good blades to act as formers to help with bends, keep at it the results are worth it mate

Images from yesterday

Lots more cleaning up to do
and a bit more progress today

As you can see, I've not followed the instruction sequence    hopefully it'll all work out in the end

After an enjoyable little phase of sticking plastic together, I felt more confident about tackling the etch    I've just spent two hours fighting with the main mast    If I hadn't hacked the plastic (as required to fit the etch) I'd have given up and reverted to the plastic  Nailbiting  The only etch I plan to undertake from here-on in is for the cranes and ships railings    and I hereby vow never to attempt etch on any other model  Angel

Ratch - have you tried using a magnifying lens?  I found one of those 3rd hand style mounted lens very useful for dealing with the PE on my previous ship builds.

I felt very old needing such a thing though...

Stick with it!  (Not to it!   )

Yep, got one of those

its the fiddly, tiny size of the stuff that disappears on the cutting mat, that pings into oblivion, that sticks to fingers, tweezers, knives, anything but the part of the model that you actually applied glue to, am I painting a picture here

Pix to follow in the morning

Ratch I found exactly the same problem, especially if you try to use superglue direct, what I do is use the PVA type glue (i forget the exact name) just to hold everything together then use a little super glue to fix permanantly, it works, trust me.  Keep on with it PE is brilliant.  Agree with Digs to that a third hand with magnifyer also helps along with filled down tweezers.

Isn't it funny how things look fine, you take a pic, and all those blemishes are revealed
A case in point

Bent etch, poor painting, need I go on...
and then there's my exploits with the mast

I can see this ending in tears

Moving astern, I then found some warped walls

These resulted in some gaps

that received some Humbrol Filler  Nailbiting

Work continues

Ratch,

You are still the inspiration for many of us.  You will overcome!

That makes three of us who have had poorly moulded superstructure pieces, I resorted to hot water and gentle manipulation to straighten mine out, followed by progressive gluing, seemed to work. Keep at it Ratch.
