I had the same thing with my Twin Hotspur - the Milliput wouldn't cure I ended up using Humbrol Filler _________________ and was Jerusalem, builded here

Was it Milliput fine.....I've had this problem a few times with the fine white and never with the medium yellow.
It got me twice yesterday, because I had also resculpted the canvas canopy of my Morris CS8 with it and there were unset lumps in that too.....I was more than a bit peeved last night and the Rapide very nearly paid the price!

One way to cure slow setting Milliput is to spray it with water and warm it up, keep it moist and warm in a plastic bag and it will set hard usually over night.

Sounds like there's been an outbreak of Gremlins down the Milliput mines!
The possibility of my build being reduced to 'chunky-lumps' seems to be receeding as it is beginning to cooperate. It is now mostly black on top and yellow underneath, relatively smooth and, dare I say it, reasonably Rapidelike.....Fingers crossed, touching wood etc.
Pictures as soon as the camera battery takes a charge.

I have learned a new thing.....Battery chargers are much more efficient when they are plugged into the mains!
The Rapide is now convincingly black and yellow and looks quite striking. I have discovered a rattle-can of Hu29 and was contemplating saving myself a lot of hassle by masking off the lower surfaces and glazing again, before spraying my base camo coat with it.
To which end, the inevitable question.....Should I give the Trainer Yellow surfaces a coat of Klear before spraying, in the hope that it will prevent the masking tape taking any paint off?

That's uncanny , my charger does that as well !
Yes to the Klear, it will give a sharper edge too. _________________ Pax Britannica

I always put a coat of Klear on after I've masked up too - stops the top colour bleeding under the tape. _________________ Cheers,

When you say you put a coat on after masking up, do you mean that once the model is masked you apply Klear to the unmasked surfaces which are about to be sprayed?
I'm a bit confused!

Paint the 'bottom' colour (your trainer yellow), mask off the required areas, then Klear over the edge of the masking. The Klear will bleed under the masking and 'seal' it, rather than the top colour finding the same gaps!
Possibly only of use to lazy wotsits like me that don't burnish down the edge of the tape properly _________________ Cheers,

Aaah.....I see!
I've just made a bit of a silly mistake.....While painting a black undercoat on the canopy frames I went a little bit over the edge. In a moment of what can only have been temporary insanity I reached for the "Revell Aqua Color Clean"! A little dab on the tip of a brush soon removed the offending paint and royally messed up the Klear that I'd coated the canopy in.....I'm warming up the wood-chipper again!

Unmasked and as yet unchipped!
Well the masking tape is off and things are, as always, not quite as good as I might have hoped, but equally not so bad as I might have feared:
I'll be handpainting the camo once I've got the basecoat reasonably even.....Lots of touching up to do on the brown, especially around the glazing, but the Trainer Yellow seems to have survived reasonably unscathed. It looks as though I will be running a bit late in finishing this one, but I always expected that this would be the case.....I've made much more progress on this than I expected, but I must confess that it hasn't been as much fun as I'd hoped!

More ups & downs with my Rapide.....The amount of camouflage has increased, but the number of intact struts has decreased!
Hark.....Is that the sound of rapidly whirling and gnashing blades!

What a trial.....In total I had four strut breakages before all were attached and painted. This lead to a bit of a supergluey accident which in turn required me to have to do quite a bit more sanding and thus repainting!
However it is almost done, the new camouflage coat is taking shape and the Rapide still lives!
With only the exhausts, tail wheel and props to go.....What could possibly go wrong?
Nothing like tempting fate is there!
All the best
PS - I'm sure those struts were extra fragile.....They are hardly small parts compared to some of the tanky stuff I regularly work with, yet they snapped like dry twigs, while being carefully sanded!

I'd have to agree. I'm no stranger to brute force and ignorance, but the stupid things seemed to snap as soon as you looked at them!
I've almost lost the will to live on mine now... _________________ Cheers,

What else could possibly go wrong?
Prompted by recent discussions regarding filler elsewhere, I found myself reluctantly returning to the Rapide 'That Which Shall Not Be Named!'. My next project was cleaning up and drilling out the exhausts ready for fitting to the model.....One promptly broke in half while having its sprue attachment points sanded away.....I can be cack handed, but not that cackhanded! The finer parts in this kit really do seem to be incredibly fragile.
I then moved on to repainting the Dark Brown upper camouflage colour. All proceeded smoothly until I was working under the horizontal tail, when an unnoticed droplet of water rolled down the hank of my brush and caused a mini deluge around the tailwheel.....Looks like I'll be getting the Trainer Yellow out at least once more before this one is finished!
Camera batteries are dead again so no piccys for the time being!

Dumb question:
How do you mix your milliput?

Mix in 50:50 proportions by taking a small amount of each component and rolling it into a thin string, then bind the two strings together and roll this into a thin string. Bundle it up and roll into a thin string and keep repeating this until both components are thoroughly mixed together. The Milliput should be totally uniform in colour and by this time nice and warm and ready for use.

A very clear method of successfully rolling your own !
