Hi Dan,
Hopefully it will be Boeing CH46 Sea Knight from the AIRFIX kit.
Kit is awaited from Kingkit.
Looking forward to this GB - long time since I made a helicopter!
Best,
Ron |

I have now got the Sea Knight kit 02065-3 from Kingkit so I am able to make a start on this popular Group Build..
here it is
The decals
The fuselage sides
The transparencies
The rotor blades
The kit components (not many!¬quick build perhaps?)
Watch this space!

Made a start at this Sea Knight.
here the fuselage halves have been cleaned up and the window transparencies added. The cockpit area has been assembled and fitted into the starboard fuselage half. Painted Hu27 (actually the instructions mention Airfix M2!) Note th poor fiiting of the doors and the gap between the cockpit floor and the fuselage side. Filler necessary!
More later.
Ron.

The fuselage halves have been joined and the seams filled. A lot of sanding has been done on the seams and most of the rivets and surface detail has been taken off with wet 'n dry (used wet).
The model has been polished a little with Brasso. (no one seems to use this polish these days!?)
I then fitted the engine intakes parts 36 and 37 and found that they were a poor fit, being too shallow, and so the space has been filled with 'Plasto'.
Here is the underside after sanding. (Note that I have since added more filler to the rear loading door which I intend to have in the closed position on the final model.) I found that there was quite a ridge on the central seam and this required a lot of rubbing down.
Here is top side view showing the extra filler necessary behind the engine air intakes.
Have made start on the rotors so the build is progressing quite well and quickly. Soon it'll be time to epoxy the canopy on. It appears to fit well.
More later.

It's been a while since I've used brasso. _________________ “The farther backward you can look, the farther forward you are likely to see.” Winston Churchill |

I thought that the solvent in Brasso attacked plastic? _________________ Cheers,

Hi farmroad38,
Yes it probably does but only very slightly. I have found over the years that brasso is very good at cleaning up a plastic model prior to painting. The polish that can be achieved shows up all faults in panel lines and seams. It also leaves a very good surface for painting by either brush or airbrush. Some static electricity charges may be generated on the plastic surface but generally they do not cause any problems. I always wash the model after 'brasso-ing' with warm soapy water.
Another polish that can be used in a similar way is duraglit - again with the same results as brasso. Duraglit is usually in the form of small pieces of material soaked in the polish. It may well be the same as brasso come to think of it.
Painting a clean model is one of the secrets of successful plastic modelling.

A bit of a set back today. I was trying to adjust the front cockpit transparency to make it a slightly better fit at the edges. Foolishly I did this over a gas flame but got too close. So the transparency is ruined. It looks like this
I have taken steps to obtain a replacement.
In the meantime the fuselage has received its first coat of Hu27 and work on the rotors has started as here
hope to do more painting tomorrow. Tops of the blades Hu30 and the undersides Hu33. Then there is the undercarriage to assemble and paint.
The unexpected always seems to happen when you are making good progress with a kit. Maybe it is just me?

Ayup Ron...
Nevermind ! stuff happens sometimes, i'm afraid.
I think you're right though. its like when you're towards the end of a build, the thoughts of the next one, or something else is likely to make you 'Take your Eye off the ball' its fatal...
Still, i'm sure you'll sort it. good progress though. _________________ Airfix Member 022... Jolly Boy.

I took my eye off the ball and lost a transparency for my build.
Incidently I e-mail Airfix, explained that I lost it and today i got an e-mail from a human saying that they would replace it for me. Excellent customer service from Honrby/Airfix. _________________ 60% of the time it works every time.

I think Paul was delicately suggesting, in a roundabout way, that it may be worth contacting Airfix directly to sort out your damaged cockpit, Ron, as they seem to be helpful even if it is the modeller's "fault" and not Airfix's "fault" that a piece is missing or damaged.

Yes that's what I was trying to say. I highlighted the I to emphasise the fact that the fault was mine and not Airfix, but they will still replace it. _________________ 60% of the time it works every time.

Thanks 299_paul and Paula & Dan for your thoughts and assistance.
I have sent an email to Hornby asking for a replacement canopy (if possible) - also I have another Sea Knight kit coming from Kingkit.
So I should end up with a completed CH46 Sea Knight if all goes well.
