Although there are lots of modellers out there that can not tell a 737 from an A320 (God forbid!    ), in the past some of us have thought about doing an Airfix 737-200.

Given all of the liveries out there plus some of the military derivatives, loads of which are available on the aftermarket, maybe we could have a colourful 737-200 group build.

I'll be voting "Yes" for an Orion 737-200 (who were absorbed into Britannia in the 1980s) and an Aloha version, too - to add to my Hooters Air example already completed. Pics are here of completed versions to get your creative juices flowing.

This is treason given who I work for but what can you do?

Who else is up for it? Poll will run for 2 weeks.

Dan

Me too!

I'd be doing a 'Britannia' one.

You know, I could be tempted - I've just been having a poke around on the Hannants site and there's some nice looking schemes about.

I'll see if I can find a kit and some interesting decals at Milton Keynes this weekend, and if I can then I'll join in.

Brill! Good luck with that Adrian - it'd be nice to have you aboard a civvy build of the slug, as we delicately put it....

I've linked to this U.S. civvy supplier lot before and postage can be a hassle but I've used them to get hold of quite a few schemes. Have a mooch for some schemes. Their front page mentions they have a fresh stock of Airfix 737-200s and just entering 737-200 in their search engine reveals schemes in 1/144 for a whole host of interesting airlines.

Good stuff, Rich. I think there'll probably be a while before we get to the build anyway.

Did you have any luck Adrian?

I was kinda hoping we'd hear from Dave - he mentioned a long time ago he had one in the stash with decals for a USAF version (T-43 maybe?). I'd like to see that one!

I managed to find every Airfix airliner except a 737!  The only stall that had any was trying to knock them out at 9 quid a pop - okay, they were old ones not the recent re-release, but even so I thought that was a bit steep.

Not to worry though - I'll see if I can get one elsewhere.  Going to be a couple of months until the build starts at least, and I need to go over to Hobbycraft to get some paint so I'll see if they have any.

Just as long as you keep your hands off my Bahamasair ones!

I'm sure I bid on some Aloha or other Hawaiian ones yesterday, but they went higher than I was prepared to pay.

I can see we're going to end up bidding against each other for the kit too!

Interesting - as I mentioned in the original post, we will be doing an Aloha version (an aircraft we flew on about 3 years ago).

These guys, who I've never heard of before admittedly, seem to have some 737s in stock for not outrageous money.

If you guys want to do that, that could be a good idea - we're all set for the model kit itself as we have 3 of them in the stash, believe it or not. The last one we won on e-bay yesterday.

Aloha 737s.

Hmmm.... whenever I see those two together all I can recall is the picture of the one that lost part of it's upper fuselage that was shown to us as what could happen in a lecture on Aircraft Structures and Systems. The lecturer also referred to the 'Comet Cabriolet' as well.

Yep - and the beauty is that it was repaired and was, until recently, still operating for them.

I've pinged off mails to a couple of local shops to see if they have any in stock.

I've checked, and it was an Aloha and Air California decal sheet that I placed a bid on.  I can see why so many people want to use that scheme - it's very bright!

A week left to vote on this - we're neck and neck at the moment with 4 each way, though I guess we have passed the required minimum of 3 for the build to go ahead.

Any luck tracking them down, Adrian?

No response yet from either place I contacted.  Sort of makes you wonder why they have email addresses on their website if they aren't going to answer mails

I'm sure I'll find one at some point.

Kingkit have a Airfix 737-200 in 1/300 scale listed for UKP6.99. I didn't think they did it in that scale? Might be worth an email to see if it's been listed wrong and it's what you want.

I'd noticed they had that, but hadn't seen it was 1/300.  Certainly not listed in the history section... maybe I should buy it just to see.  It will either be the one I want, or an interesting oddity!
