Given all of the liveries out there plus some of the military derivatives, loads of which are available on the aftermarket, maybe we could have a colourful 737-200 group build.
I'll be voting "Yes" for an Orion 737-200 (who were absorbed into Britannia in the 1980s) and an Aloha version, too - to add to my Hooters Air example already completed. Pics are here of completed versions to get your creative juices flowing.
This is treason given who I work for but what can you do?
Who else is up for it? Poll will run for 2 weeks.

That would have been one huge repair job, would they have done it on site or sectioned it and took it away in a 'Guppy' or similar ?

Maybe a misprint for a 747 ?

Somethings not right there. Airfix did two 1.300 airliners. The 747-400 and the 777. Not the 737.
Revell did a re-pop of Matchbox's 737-200 but that was 1.200 scale.
Might be worth an e-mail.
There's usually a few on E-bay. To save a couple of quid I'd stay away from the older 'Lufthansa' boxings, the newer ones are cheap enough. _________________ If you can't Dodge it, Ram it!!!!!!!! |

I was kinda hoping we'd hear from Dave - he mentioned a long time ago he had one in the stash with decals for a USAF version (T-43 maybe?). I'd like to see that one!

Hi Dan,
I am having to restrict my modelling and my forum time for the time being, hence my long absences. Depending on when the GB took place, then I could probably take part but only if it is the military GB. Then I would indeed build a T-43 Texan but I don't have decals though and would have to make them.

Hey Dave,
I hope it's nothing serious that's keeping you away from here. I'm sure Adrian'll agree it'd be a while before this one could take place anyway but, so far as I'm concerned, a 737's a 737 - although it's a civil airframe there's no reason why it shouldn't appear in one of its military guises, too - I'd love to see that T-43 variant. I'm sure I also remember having seen an Indonesian military (Air Force or Navy?) version of the 737-200 as well somewhere in the dim and distant past.

I shouldn't think we'd be doing this one until at least the end of March or beginning of April, and yes I'd be happy for the 737s built to be in any guise at all. _________________ Cheers,

As and when this build goes ahead I may also run a Revell 737-800 in parallel, though obviously not covered as part of the group build, just as a compare and contrast exercise. Though the -800 is quite a bit bigger, it'll be interesting to see how the detail on this much newer kit compares with the Airfix model. It'll be for my own personal gratification but if others think it's worth it I may post pics on a different part of this BB.
Mind you - then betwen us Paula and I would be running 4 737 builds in parallel! Eeek!!!

Depends, of course, if we're going to be strict on it being a -200, as the others are mostly -700 or -800 derivatives and have a completely different wing planform, engines etc.. The -800 would be especially difficult to reproduce due to increased fuselage length. To reproduce them would break from the spirit of using "mostly Airfix" components, I would think.
This is the Indonesian aircraft, dubbed the Surveiller, that I was thinking of. Great for all you day-glo fans out there!

As long as the kit used as the base is the Airfix, and we stick to the mostly Airfix rule, I don't think it matters what the end result it.
I quite like the look of those Aussie and Turkish AEW ones, with the wedge on the back. I know some of the accuracy purists might create merry hell, but if you ignore any fuselage/engine/wing differences, it would be pretty simple to build the wedge bit out of plastic card. _________________ Cheers,

Well Adrian, you're the boss of course, but I have to (cheekily) ask - if ya change the fuselage, the wing and the engines... what's left of the original?!

I'd be up for this as a Group Build, but as Dan's already voted, I guess I can't too.
