Torn as to what to build from my vast stash of Harriers. Will it be a GR3, or maybe a GR3? Oh, hang on, I forgot - I've also got a couple of GR3s...
No, I'm not going to build one of the four 1/72 GR3s I seem to have accumulated! I may, however, build a 1/48 GR3, or a 1/72 GR7. Or maybe even both, but given my group build track record, that may be pushing it a bit... _________________ Cheers,

With that in mind and given the possibilities for prevarication/procrastination in actually deciding which one to build, is anybody offering odds on Adrian actually starting this GB?
Given my own track record am I calling the pot black?

Cheeky devils!
I'm fairly set on the GR3 - it's out of the stash and on the 'to build' pile waiting. _________________ Cheers,

Okay, I've decided on the 1/48 GR3.
Here's the box (don't think we've got this one in the history section BAC, so if you want I can upload a hi-res version).
There are three sprues in light grey plastic, plus one of clear.
Just the merest hint of flash!
And the decals provide two options: 3 Squadron, Gutersloh, July 1983, and 1 Squadron, Wittering, February 1985.

Well, I'm off and running.
I've stared building the pilot, cockpit and engine parts. Despite the huge blob of flash on the pilot's torso, the mouldings are actually fairly clean, except for one of the engine nozzles. This had a deformed section, and it looks to me like someone has already had a go at rebuilding it with filler - the kit was from one of Vince's box of goodies, so I don't know its provenance.
For its size, there isn't a huge amount of detail. I've not decided what I'll do to improve the cockpit, but the engine vents are solid so I'm a least going to drill those out. _________________ Cheers,

The build is underway. Pilot is constructed and the engine parts being painted.
Drilling out the vents has proved to be a bit of a laugh ( ). I'd sort of assumed that it would just be a case of cutting away a little plastic, but I was wrong. They're actually solid lumps of plastic, so it was a case of drilling them out with my Dremel. After an hour or so, and three different drill bits, I've got something that looks vaguely tube-like. Now it's just a case of adding back in the grills. Pics to follow, although I forgot to take a shot of the before, because I'm a numpty. _________________ Cheers,

Report on what little progress there has been so far.
Pilot and cockpit - as you can see, not much detail! I won't be adding much in either, just using it as is.
And the engine parts. Still got to clean up the vent pipes, but they look better than they did before!

Vent pipes? What be they?! Perchance you could mean thrust vectoring nozzles!
Er, what happened to the vanes in the aforesaid nozzles?

I knew it had a V in it somewhere!
For those who've been paying attention ( ), I drilled out the nozzles as they were solid lumps and will be rebuilding the vanes with plastic card. _________________ Cheers,

Were they really that naff? They look reasonablish/OKish on the sprue shot. Not that I would discourage anybody from doing a bit of accurisation.

Yes, they were awful. Bit irritated with myself that I didn't take a 'before' shot!
Think of a section of staircase, glued to the end of a tube and that's what they looked like. Not even a hint of a recess to indicate that they should actually be open - the 1/72 GR7 that I built a while ago was much, much better. _________________ Cheers,

When I first started modelling, I thought it had lots of detail and bought it just for cockpit detail _________________ Does this count as a new signature? |

Progress isn't exactly rapid, but just to prove the I'm getting somewhere, here are my assembled bits and bobs!
I'm ready to put the engine (not shown), nozzles and cockpit into the fuselage and join the two halves, but that won't get done until the weekend as I'm away for the rest of the week. _________________ Cheers,

The vectoring thrust nozzle wotsits now have vanes - I'll post a picture once I've painted them up.
Prompted by peebeep's post in the chat thread about the suction relief doors, I thought I might open those up too (assuming that we're both talking about the same bit - this could be a cue for me to look like an idiot again...).
Here's how the kit parts look. As you can see, they don't look much like doors!
At the risk of stuffing it up completely, I shall be opening them up over the weekend _________________ Cheers,
