At the moment it's a toss-up between Hampden or Sunderland I think _________________ Bubbly! |

I've made a start and put together some of the pieces that were floating around loose in the box:

Nice subject Hewman100.
Another of the good old kits with boxart to make you WANT to build it.
Airfix today have a lot to learn from the past.
I hope you will enjoy your Hampden as much as enjoy my Blenheim.
I’m looking forward to your build.
With all the best from Jesper. |

I am watching this build closely. I love the old Hampden. There's something about those early war RAF bombers that just I just love. The Hampden, Blenheim, Battle. . . great subjects all. Unfortunately, these kits are hard to come by these days. I've managed to get a battle and several Blenheims, but the Hampden continues to elude me.
Can't wait to watch it develop. |

Good progress made this weekend.
Fuselage has been completed. Interior given a coat of Revell No.9 Anthracite with seats picked out in Hu70.
The bomb racks were given a coat of Hu56 and the bombs are my Dark green of choice, Bronze Green, 36165, from the Revell Aqua Color range
Masking tape painted Hu26 Khaki were then used for the seatbelts and a Spitfire panel decal was put in place.
With the bomb load in place it was found that in order to fit the bombdoors the locating tabs had to be removed, as there is very little space!
Other painting included Hu53 Gunmetal on the Vickers, external bomb shackles, and Pegasus fronts; and Hu 67 Tank Grey on the mainwheels.
Tonight should see the fuselage together and the tail assembly added |

Wings are together at last.
Still waiting for some reference material to come through the post so I can make a reasonably good job of reshaping the wingtips.
Undercart legs have been Hu56'd although they look a little bright. A coat of Matt varnish may well be in order!

Unable to find a scale plan I used these two reference sources to enable the required wingtip surgery
The unaltered wingtip is from an as yet unbuilt Bilek Hampden:
And now the 'Suitcase' has wings:
Painting next! |

Wow!
It's an impressive looking thing isn't it.....The metallic bronze on the cowlings adds a splash of colour to the model and contrasts nicely with the undersides.
All the best |

All done!
The original decals were found to be a complete loss.
However my faithful bank of Esci sheets provided replacements for the entire aircraft, with the exception of the fuselage roundel which came from Modeldecal
The red on the wing roundels and fin flashes needed over-painting to the duller shade (Hu70 used for this)
Very pleased with the finished item, and yet again enjoyed the build.
More photos in the Gallery
Onward to the ATF 2nd Anniversary build!!!!!!! |
