RAF Group build, 11th update:
Today I’ve finally got the kit masked off and I’ve given it a wash down with a bit of mild detergent to remove any greasy marks. With a bit of luck I’d like to get a coat of primer sprayed on tomorrow.
Other work today included giving the prop a coat of Klear ready for having the stencil decals applied over the next few days.
If I can get the primer done today I’m hopeful of having the main colour done by the end of the weekend. |

RAF Group build, 12th update:
Well today I finally got the Spitfire undercoated with primer. It seems like ages since I got the thing ready for spraying! Once this is dry I can sort out a couple of joint lines that are still visible, do a bit of light pre-shading and, with any luck, I can get the main colour sprayed on at the weekend. The end is in sight now and a couple of weekends should see this build completed!
Primer coat done, at last. I’m reasonably pleased with my work on this build and I’m looking forward to getting it done now. |

RAF Group build, 13th update:
Today I applied the main colour to my Spitfire. If I’m honest though, I’m not very pleased with the overall result. The paint didn’t seem to mix very well when I thinned it down for the airbrush and it looks a bit “fluffy” in places. It’s not a complete disaster because I can always rub down and re-spray but the time constraints of the group build may not allow me that option. I’m going to let it dray for a day or two and see how it looks with a coat of Klear before I decide on a re-spray. A setback but not the end of the build.
Main colour applied but with disappointing results. A re-spray may be in order. |

RAF Group build, 14th update:
Well, I did try to save the paint job but it was no good so tonight I’ve begun stripping it back to plastic to try again . This will involve many hours or sanding with fine wet and dry and then the panel lines will need clearing out. I don’t know what went wrong here but the paint was old and very thick before I thinned it down and I reckon I put it on a bit heavy in an attempt to get it done in one coat. Major set back but I’m still going to do my very best to pull this in on time. It may not end up looking as good as I’d hoped but I’m confident I can get a half decent model out of it in the end. At least my other group build is going well! |

Was that the acrylic paint that came with the kit HT?

No, it was a tin of Xtracolour RAF Hight Speed Silver enamel. I used it last year on my Spitfire 22 but it's not been opened since. It had gone very thick and lumpy and needed a heap of thinners. I've ordered a new tin now.
A combination of dodgy paint and my impatience to get this done I think here. |

RAF Group build,16th update:
Most of the rubbing down is now done but the kit is looking a bit sorry and I've lost a lot of the finer surface details. I'm hoping to have time to re-scribe a few of the panel lines over the weekend and I have some time off work coming up soon so it looks like a last minute dash to the finish now. I still think I can get done on time and turn out a decent kit. |

RAF Group build, 17th update:
It’s been really hard work getting the old paint off and now I’m working to sort out the panel lines that need some re-scribing. It’s taken me a good week longer than I’d hoped and time is getting short now. My plan is to get some primer back on this in the next day or two and try and have it fully re-painted by next weekend. Unlikely to finish now inside the deadline but I’m going to keep going and I’ll post some finished model pictures (hopefully) in the next few weeks.
Sad looking Spitfire. I’m still not 100% sure what went wrong here but I’ve put if far too much hard work to just write it off now. |

Still waiting for my new tin of paint . The primer is back on though. Hopefully I will not bee too far outside the time limit when I finish. I've enjoyed the build though so I guess that's all that really matters. |
