I am a bit stuck now waiting on the aerofoil bits. I did think about making something out of old sprue, but decided that would look too much as if I had made something out of old sprue...
Still undecided about colour scheme.
Anyone interested cast your vote, I'll go with the majority:
a: Bare Metal with real aluminum a la dancho? (I've never done an aluminium foil job so it could be entertaining, special glue is on order)
b: Traditional camouflage? (at which I am rubbish)
c: Ronald MacDonald? (Trainer Yellow and Hu19 Red)
Let me know.

...you're not going to use aluminum foil on a Mosquito? No-- sorry. I'm sure you're not suggesting that.
I'm still voting for black-- if this is a vote. _________________ “Build what YOU want, the way YOU want to, and above all, have fun.”

He could use it on the engine cowlings dancho!
If going for prototype I'd suggest a High Vis scheme for the Mossie and standard camo with yellow undersides for the Hurri. _________________ Bubbly! |

The yellow does look spiffy. Here's a color photo of a Sea Hornet prototype with yellow underside.

I like the idea of an all yellow Mossie with wasp-stripes on the undersurfaces, maybe a b/w chequered Hurri _________________ and was Jerusalem, builded here

Thanks for the comments.
I suppose foil on a predominantly wooden aircraft might have been slightly out of place...
That Hornet looks interesting though! Like a wasp, but with a bigger sting.

Still waiting on the aerofoil parts from Hannants...
Started to experiment with paint on the Hurricane. This is one brush coat of H24.
It looks better in the picture than in life. Tempted to overcoat with a Gloss Yellow. The silver bit in the centre of the wing is the radiator. I have an idea to make that part of the attachment gear to the Mosquito.
That means moving the air intake. Test pilots had problems with engine overheating, this was fixed by re-routing the cold air and fitting a second radiator and intake. Fortunately I was able to borrow one from another Hurricane.
Both need a new radiator made out of sprue. These will get fitted to the wing when the paint is dry.
The Mosquito hasn't moved on apart from fitting the undercarriage doors.
I have decided on a colour scheme though, but I will save that for later.

One of the reasons that I have an airbrush is to avoid brush-painting H24 (along with H34, H11 etc etc). I always hated brushing it If you hadn't said you had trouble with it, though, I'd have thought it looked pretty even. |

Problem with the H24 in that more than 24 hours after applying, it is still soft and tacky and the coverage is streaky.
Could it be old paint that has gone off? I can leave it for longer to see if it dries properly, buy fresh paint, anything, but don't want to spoil the mosquito when I start on that.
Would I do better to use gloss paints and then cover with Matt Cote? Would I be better to just use gloss and be done with it? I have never used any flavour of varnish before.
Any tips welcome.

That drying time for Hu:24 sounds way too long
Hu:69 is a different shade, but if that doesn't concern you the drying time of gloss paints is generally longer than matt ones Gloss is better to apply decals to - no need for Klear or Gloss Cote to prevent silvering after that, the finish is again up to you _________________ and was Jerusalem, builded here

Thanks for the advice Ratch.
The H24 (at least my application of it) looks a strange shade anyway. I suspect the paint is past its sell by. We have 'best before' on everything else, why not paint?
I'm think I'm going to go for gloss, at least to get some paint on the Mosquito undersides and see how it looks. When I did my red collection (using H19) of Harrier, Hawk and Gnat I was impressed by the coverage and finished I achieved even if I was using a hairy stick...
This is a 'what if' anyway, not as though I am trying to replicate a real one. If it all goes wrong I'll throw in a few more money tokens and start again.
Still waiting for the aerofoils so plenty of time to practice.
Thanks again

The aerofoils arrived but I have struggled with the paint. The Mosquito looked like a toy with a lot of yellow paint so I decided to take dancho's advice...
I think it looks like a WMD now. I used Humbrol Acrylic Satin Coal Black.
The struts look a little long but it all looks in proportion when the Hurricane is in place.
The paint on the Hurricane has gone horrible, I'm going to scrape it off and start again.
More in a couple of days when I have done some more painting.
