At the moment I'm basically doing paint touch-ups and trying to decided whether to add, and if yes, how to represent the Oerlikons  Nailbiting
I'm considering making a T shape with a thick Plastikard rod on the vertical with thinner rod on an up-turned horizontal  Think  It won't stand close inspection, but as it won't be entered in any competitions I've only myself to please
On the other hand, with 35 emplacements, do I want to be bothered

This might sound like a stupid question ( but as it's never stopped me before) I'll still ask it: RATCH How did you cut the straws without squashing it ?

Hello ratch, nice work, the effect with the straws is better but be carrefull, they look to high, don t forgot that you work at the 1/600.So only 2 or 3 mm high are necessary to obtein a good oerlikon emplacement. To make the gun themself may be use some photodec set, they are very realistics.Amitiés Rémy.

The straws were a pig to cut because they squash, so there is no chance of getting consistent heights for 35 of them    and I have no intention of going photo-etch for the guns

If you want i can try to make a photo report to show you how to make a lot of  oerlikon emplacements with constant heights and egual dimensions.A photo report is for me more easy than try to explain how to do in english...

I'm sure that would be very useful, for others as well as me

That's given me an idea of how to cut the straw accurately.
Find a drill bit or dowel that is a snug sliding fit in the straw,  mark out the correct size . Roll the straw and drill bit with the scalple blade pressed in the mark and lo ! correct size round rings.

I know it'll come useful someday.
Thank you for sharing.

With kind regards from Jesper.

Thanks Remy - a good tip.   Is it lead foil from a wine bottle you used?

Looking good Ratch but I think Remy is right the bins are too tall. Very good photo sequence of how to do it- well done Remy. I've used similar methods to construct cylindrical features using a variety of tubes as formers.. Sometimes I've used plastic card formed around a tube and glued it- this was how I did the barbettes for Warspite. I've also cut thin brass tube to length with a pipe cutter and used that. I did wonder how cutting the plastic straws without crushing them out of the round could be accomplished without inserting some form of inner cylindrical support.
cheers Stuart
