Here are few pics of my Warspite- finally got my act together I think!
Inspired by the Airfix model I built in the 60s and another later one here is my return to modelling. This was brought about by being bored out of my head after our house was flooded last June and by December I had gone crazy! So I started building or rather initially rebuilding some ships I found in the loft- a Bismarck and Gneisenau. They were not enough I had to do more. This model is scratch built but uses bits such as props and shafts, pompoms, anchors and several other bits from a Airfix 1:400 Hood and a KGV. Hull built using a plastic card frame cased over with Milliput. Superstructure plastic card. You can see how much bigger the scale is by comparing the little Airfix 1:600 sister ship.
Hope I got the pics at the right size.

Fantastic job! Any chance of seeing a 1/400 HMS Dreadnought? :-)

There's a card kit available for the Dreadnought in 1/400. £8.95 isn't bad for the Dreadnought and a River class monitor.

The build has stalled due to installation of en suite bathroom- which is well on the way! Unfortunately this also involves a bedroom revamp- GROAN! Warspite will resume in a bit of time. I'm exhausted but Madame is quite happy!

Hmmm....
A bathroom in the Warspite- of course it's in the admiral's cabin! Yet if I tried to launch the little beastie it would turn into a submarine because of the amount of Milliput it is built from! The grand en suite is all plumbed up and now needs decorating- then the bedroom- unfortunately Madame mentioned that the main bathroom also needs redecorating as well. Is there no end to this DIY stuff- Arrrggghhhh!

Ah DIY I try GSITDIFY (get someone in to do it for you) that way you can have it done in half the time and in my case a far better finish:)

Nice model

Hmmm... the ~DIY is finished- what a marathon- an en suite bathroom total build from scratch- a bedroom redecoration, an office decoration, and finally the refurb of the main bathroom. Madame is a happy bunny! I wasn't midweek-there was nearly a divorce as Madame did some dusting and Warspite came off rather badly with a busted foremast that was bent like a mad banana and lost the upper yard and gaff.

The t16s shipyard is about to reopen for business- just about to start some photo etching when I get he stuff to do it. Then hopefully if the bits etch okay I can finish and repaint the model- I'll post the results but it may be a while.
cheers
ps Been buying a few kits- I got a Prinz Eugen at 1:400 at last and another Gneisenau to build with 15"guns on a stretched hull.

Hi folks,
just cracked the photo etch thing and made a pair of cranes for the Warspite- except that like the idiot I am I didn't take photos of the process to share with you all. Groan! I shall document the next attempt which will be radars and railings etc. I must also post photos of the assembled cranes.
cheers Stuart

Here is a (non too good) photo of a Warspite crane that has photo etched jib and base. I have more etching to do for radars and railings and other bits and pieces. When I do them I'll record the process and post some photos.
cheers Stuart

Hi all,
where here is the finished beast- my scratch built Warspite. Not a Jim Bauman or a Remy by any stretch of the imagination but I hope a reasonable-looking representation of the ship. The 'Old Lady' that I first built as an Airfix model in the 1960s. The detail brass etched stuff is mainly Tom's Modelworks plus my own cranes and mast radars. Doing your own PE I have found is very difficult but I will persist because it is the only way with a model nobody provides a fret for.

I know people love to pull Ratch's leg lover his troubles with PE but I admire his tenacity. Especially as I have grave troubles with it at 1:400 scale!
God knows what 1:600 is like!
cheers Stuart
