|
|
The subject of the next build will be Airfix WW2 tank kits (saving the modern stuff for another build), we just need to decide whether we would like to all build the same tank kit or perhaps a themed build or maybe try our hands at a conversion.
If we decide to all build the same WW2 tank I will put up a further poll to chose the subject.
Themed builds this time around will be based on WW2 tank kits and will be either Axis or Allied tanks
The kit bash/conversion will be based on an Airfix WW2 tank kit with no more than 50% of parts being taken from other manufacturers kit parts.
Please vote for the type of build that you would prefer to take part in. The poll will run for 7 days, should the 'all build the same kit' option be chosen then a further poll will take place to chose the kit.
Cheers

Ideally, I'd like a GB where we all build the same kit (and that's what I've voted for) - shared experience and all that but with my stash standing around 250, I won't be buying a kit especially to participate. Therefore the Axis/Allied themes might be a better compromise
Let's see how the vote goes _________________ and was Jerusalem, builded here

I've gone for an Allied tank as it's all that I have in the stash.
Oh, by the way. If it does end up having a single tank as a GB, would varients be allowed? (Go-go Sherman!!) _________________ Collectable kits built here. Baggies, blisters or boxed. You collect 'em, but I'll build 'em. |

I know what you mean Ratch.
My vote has gone to all building the same kit, I would really like us to gradually work our way through all of the Airfix Military Vehicle kits in this way as I do like to see how individuals handle the build in question and there is always something to learn along the way.
Although I can also see where the themed build may attract more votes as it offers a wider choice and can be dependant on what people have in the stash.
We shall see
Cheers

I've gone for the single subject build, although I guess it depends on what subject is chosen. _________________ Cheers,

I may have a spare WW1 tank if the time comes.
Perhaps we should work our way through the Series in catalogue order?

You know, I forgot I had a couple of spare WWI MkI tanks in the stash. I'd be happy to build that one! _________________ Collectable kits built here. Baggies, blisters or boxed. You collect 'em, but I'll build 'em. |

This is where the multiple choice poll could come into its' own, select what you have in your stash, fancy building or would not mind forking out £4-£5 for and we then see what comes up favourite.

Are we talking only tanks here, as in tracked armoured fighting vehicles?
If so I have none in my stash whatsoever!
I have Airfix/Hasegawa 1/72 Crusader III kit-bashes ready for assembly and I could probably build an Airfix Crusader II with the leftovers.
Other than that, I would be interested in building the Airfix Tank Mk.I or several Matilda Mk.IIs although both would be minor conversions yet again. I might even be tempted into another PzIV Ausf D if nothing else is agreeable to the rest of you.
In truth, I would much prefer to build the new Vickers Mk.VI if it arrives in time.
All the best |

A single subject takes my fancy - perhaps a build of one of the new ex-JB kits could be in order? _________________ Owen

I hope to build the WW1 tank too, please remember that anyone is welcome to put forward suggestions for group builds, at the moment I am just pulling together some loose fragments from the early days when the GBs were split off into subjects so hopefully I am not appearing to be too much of a dictator, volunteers to lead builds are always welcome .
This area of the group builds seems to be picking up a little more interest of late (although we have a long way to go to catch up with the aircraft types ) there are many fine examples of what can be achieved with the much maligned Airfix kit appearing among the group builds here.
It will be interesting to see how the vote turns out this time, as stated before I would like us all to build the same kit but this will be ultimately decided by the poll.
Cheers

Plus the availability of the kits and the relevance of the model to the modellers collection.
I'm limited to OSL in 1/76 at present and while I might contemplate some 1/76 Middle or Far East stuff in the future, I can neither get the kits or make the space for another collection right now.

Sarge, for this build I have suggested that we stick to WW2 tanks (meaning fully tracked AFVs with main armament larger than a bren gun).
The Post War tanks/kits could form the basis of a future build of their own as could the WW1 tank.
Should the Matilda and ex JB Models Vickers be released before this build starts then they will of course be eligible for inclusion (even if they appear as captured vehicles within an Axis tanks build).
Hope to see you in among us somewhere on this one
Cheers

I must confess that I had overlooked these gems but should the 'all build the same tank' option be chosen I will add them to the list and needless to say they can also be included in the WW2 Allied tank theme build.
Although I suppose that they could be set aside for a build of their own.....runs for cover
Thanks for reminding me Ratch, I must think bigger

I guess if the subject ended up being the Lee/Grant, you could allow either scale to be built? _________________ Cheers,

Am I right in thinking that none of the Airfix Lee/Grants are currently in production?

I was looking at the 1:76 Lee/Grant the other day, and I have a 1:32 Lee that is still in its box.
As well, I have the Airfix book on how to model the Lee/Grant (though it is, IIRC, aimed more at the 1:32 models. _________________ “The farther backward you can look, the farther forward you are likely to see.” Winston Churchill |
