This is a really nice little set that went together with no problems. The bren gun for the Daimler is awful though, and in the kit I got the little 'Monty' figure was missing an arm! (I suspect some subtle Teutonic revenge, and the poor chap is still awaiting a prosthetic replacement from my figure bits box).
I really fell for the Leyland retriever cab and chassis so I suspect this kit is often used for soft-skin conversions. Will probably end up doing the same if another of them falls into my hands.
And the little Daimler, with scratched replacement bren!

| I agree the kit supplied bren is terrible. You have done well scratching up a replacement.Another fine job here.Am I right assuming your pictures here and elsewhere are not done with a $2 point and shoot camera ? |

The weathering on YOUR vehicle is ACE. Wish i could do that.
A Soft-skin conversion .. needs a re-paint

Ron, I've been lucky enough to borrow a swanky Canon digital from a friend for a few days so you're quite correct. Fortunately it's very easy to use - I've never ever owned a decent camera. Cheap and nasty Instamatics are more my style, sadly.
Thanks for the high praise Lincolnlanc - I'm hoping to get going on more softskins and support vehicles so if you have any recommendations I'd be interested to hear. That Retriever of your looks great.
My weathering methods are quite simple really - I usually put on a matt enamel base coat a bit lighter than the final shade I'm aiming for. A few hours later when it is dry (but probably not cured) I'll give it a wash with very dilute acrylic - a dab of black, a dab of red, (plus a dab of copper if I'm after more rust) in a thimbleful of water with a brushful of washing-up liquid. Slosh it on all over all over and let it dry. Repeat as often as needed until the colours look right or even too dark. Go over the model with a stiffish dry nylon brush. Then drybrush with matt enamel in the shade you were originally wanting and again in a slightly lighter tone on the highlights - rivets and a few upper edges. Finally where you want things really dark a very dilute black/red enamel mix (lots of turps) dripped into crevices and corners with a fine brush.
The black/red mix works for sand and greens in my experience - if you're doing a lot of blue vehicles I should try a blue/black mix instead.
Hope that helps. Sorry to have run off topic. |

Nice weathering on yours B4en.
Here is my effort which was amongst the first batch of AFV's that I built as a diversion from aircraft a couple of years ago.

Great stuff on show here gentlemen, I agree B4en's painting is top notch.
Ian, any chance of having a crisper image of your conversion? I'm sure not to be the only one who would like to learn more about that conversion. Regards, Pat |

Another very fine setup jpmad2. I like the wood on the inside of the door and the general dusty effect.
More please! |

| Nice build and imaginative use of the depth of field to lead the eye to the actual subject. |

| Its a Daimler Dingo Mk II not a Humber. |

I've just looked and I'd named it correctly in my photobucket album - no idea why I called it a Humber here. |

Here is my try!
It is not finnished yet, about the Leyland it is without courtains!
And the Daimler is on the workbench!
Monty´s is not here... yet!
