Since there’s still plenty of time, and I’m thinking about making a small diorama with my Leopard tank and a NATO partner on an exercise.
I’m starting my second build with this 1993 version of the Scorpion kit.
I know the scenery is dubious since the Leopard’s resembling the prototype most likely was replaced with 1A1 Tanks,
before the Scorpion’s first appearance in 1973. But you can call it a “what if” scenario then.
This kit looks not as crisp as the Leopard and the plastic is in my opinion, inferior; but I think it will be an interesting to compare the two.

I must confess; I think it’s a great little kit.
The details are OK, and the parts fit are quite good.
I will post some pictures soon.

Hi Jesper.
I'm interested in your build of this kit - I've only built the one - when it was released in 197?
You can always replace the Saladin turret with the Scorpion turret on the ex-JB M113 FSV (with some other mods) and make an Aussie MRV (Medium Recce Veh). There's even some snazzy three colour schemes!
Good luck and have fun!

The turret, wheels, hull, and under part is now assembled but not glued together.
Ready to be painted.

You don't muck about do you? Takes me about four weeks to do what you've done have in four days.
Well done,

Somehow I think I need it!
It took me 1½ hour just to glue the tracks together, because of the rather hard, stiff, almost un-glueable vinyl, and their small size.
In the end I used sewing thread, followed by super glue when the ends were pulled together.
I have not fitted the “cog-wheel” yet, but a quick fitting of the tracks, reveals they need minimum 10mm stretching!
I think I will try to heat them well, but gently, and see how it goes.
How well does this silver-gray vinyl take paint?
Can I paint the tracks before I put them on, or will the handling make the paint pop-off like dandruff?

Jesper,
I painted my tracks on the chieftain before fitting. The paint seems to take well (I used Revell enamel Matt black). It hasn't come off on my hands yet! (I suppose there is still time) |

No progress for over a month now. but
My plan was a diorama with the Leopard and this, but now my goal is just to finish before deadline.

Hey Jesper, no pressure -lovely work there. |
| Airfix Post WW2 AFV Group Build: jhl1908’s Scorpion. |
I have done some track work today, my previous work needed to be undone to get the tracks to fit over the wheels,
just to find out (again) even superglue don’t stick that well on the plastic used.
I can only say I HATE this type of stiff, unworkable, silvery tracks! Even the old style rubberbands is a lot easier to work with.
In the end I broke the loop and made them meet under the small side covers at the front without joining them again.

This is why I always fit the tracks as early as possible.....Sure it makes the painting a bit trickier, but I'll take that over fighting to get a fit and ruining existing work every time.
All the best

Just to repeat myself...
This is clearly the worst tracks I have ever encountered. They look good, but is impossible to anything with.
After I spend lot of time to make them stay together I found out they would NEVER fit over the wheels how hard I ever tried.
In the end I have cut them open again and used superglue to make them lay where I want them.
The gaps are hidden behind the small guards at the front.
When painted and weathered I think they will be good enough:

| Well done on the nightmare tracks! |
| Airfix Post WW2 AFV Group Build: jhl1908’s Scorpion. |
| Great work with the tracks. My Scorpion looks as if its floating above it's tracks. |
| Airfix Post WW2 AFV Group Build: jhl1908’s Scorpion. |
Still missing detail painting and weathering but getting closer.
I’m thinking to add a tank commander in ABC suit to my Scorpion; but I don’t know if this NATO soldier is anything near the real thing or what colours to paint him.
Any help will be most welcome.
