An older build of the lovely Gavia kit. Rigged with monofilament (fishing line).

Bravo.
Bravissimo. |

Now that is lovely. Great work on the ribbing and rigging. |

Immaculate job, as ever.
Just one thought. Is that Union Jack right? It's the width of those white diagional lines that is certainly noticeable in 1/48. Were they painted on this aircraft as shown on the model, or has someone made a small mistake? I have just apllied some Union Jacks to a 1/72 Gunbus of the same period that are 'proper' Union Jacks. |

Thanks for the kind comments

I'm not sure Gerry, they're as supplied in the kit. Perhaps RNAS flags were painted differently than RFC/RAF? If I had the Windsock Datafile on this aircraft I suspect it would have the answer, but I don't. |

It looks right |

I'm not sure if I explained properly about the diagonal. On a normal Union Jack, the white diagonal lines are not split equally by the thin red diagonals. One side is quite a bit wider than the other. Sorry to be a pedant with our national emblem!
The model, of course, is quite sublime.

To add further to the pedantry, this flag (and most you see these days) is itself not quite right. The thin red lines should be toward the lower edge of the white diagonals on both sides of the flag, not to the lower edge on the left and the upper edge on the right. If you tried to join up the lines, they wouldn't meet, so you wouldn't have a cross, just four random lines. Mike's kit's flag actually looks right in that the lines would join up to form a cross, but wrong in that they are near the middle of the St Andrew's Cross 'bit'.
But flags, schmags, this is a superb build. I wish I could build with half the crispness that Mike invariably achieves. Plus I've always been fond of the Bristol Scout. I've heard pilots preferred the C to the D, which was made more stable to suit less experienced pilots. |

Perhaps I should butt out (being a foreigner and all) ....

BUT I love to share my infinite trivial knowledge! My understanding was that they were "off" deliberately to indicate that neither the red nor white was superior. It was some kind of effort to show that all of the various crosses were equal, since each cross represented somebody, and I'm not going to mention who since doing so would inflame ancient rivalries and I don't remember who they were anyway...
So, do I win a prize? (No I did not Google or Wiki this, I'm doing this old-school which is, of course, completely pointless unless I WIN A PRIZE).

Yes! It is indeed your lucky day! You can have one of the prizes I won last night (it would be greedy to claim them all...)
