The votes  for the next MVGB have been cast and the results are as follows:

Sherman (including Crab and Calliope) = 11

Lee/Grant (1/76 & 1/32) = 8

Churchill (including Crocodile) = 5

Crusader (1/76 & 1/32) = 4

Panzer IV = 4

Chi Ha = 3

Matilda = 3

StuG III = 3

T34 = 3

JSIII = 2

Tiger = 1

Panther = 0

So there we have it, the next Military Vehicle Group Build will be the Airfix Sherman tank

All we need do now is decide when we want to start building it so please vote in the attached poll for a rough idea of start date, a more precise option will be available once the user group is set up. Oh, and another thing, any one fancy leading this one If not, I will have a go

This initial start day poll will run until Tuesday 8th July

Cheers

Stu

Late August Please, preferably later than that but beggars can't be choosers!

I voted August, too, preferably late August or later.

I will aim to make, say, a dozen turrets, then, and send to one of you (Stu?) for UK distribution.

If you have a preference for turret type, then I'll see what I can do for you. At the moment, I'm just set up for the Firefly but it won't take me long to make a mould of the Firefly turret with no loader's hatch and no counterweight. The next step will be to change the rotor.

The trouble with the one turret that I've converted so far is that it was an imperfect cast, and the lifting ring and other small lumpy bits on the turret are missing due to air-bubbles in the resin.

I'll also be casting resin copies of a 75mm M3 barrel that I made from stretched sprue. It won't be as good as a turned-aluminium or brass barrel, but it will be doable for me

Whenever you're ready. I've got a crab and a standard Sherman in the stash.

Just a thought, but considering the common heriatage of the M3 and M4 tanks, the two most popular options, why not be a little more expansive and go for a 'Detroit Steel GB', allwing any M1, M2, M3 or M4, or any of their variants, in any scale.....As long as it's Airfix!

Just a thought, all the best

I can see your point Andy but feel that the Lee/Grant (second in the poll running) will make a suitable subject for a Group Build of it's own. Perhaps it should automatically qualify as the next tank build

I like the sound of the automatic qualification!

I like it too.....I'd like it more if I could actually get one in either scale, mind you!

I'm thinking of building my first ever BIG MODEL.....An Airfix 1/32 Nunshigum Lee, possibly in a diorama with some multipose Japanese and maybe even a converted Desert Rat or two.

However I can't find one!

Anyway with the current GB being the M4 it's all a little irrelevant.  I'm going to have to think quite hard about what to build, as a 1/76 M4 Early with DV doesn't really fit in with any of my current plans.  Did the Chinese receive any tanks this early?  Did the US Army use this model in the far east?  If not I'm probably going to have to drop out of this one.

All the best

You could convert it to periscopes, surely.

I suppose.....Despite the fact that I'm building gazillions of the things, I actually know very little about Shermans.

I'm up for having a bash if I can build something usable in the far east.....The Chinese Shermans really appeal to me because of the g00gly faces painted on the turrets!

All the best

Just like the Korean war Shermans and M 26's.

Doubly bad news, the Chinese tanks were Sherman V from British Lend Lease stocks. I'm pretty sure that the British and Indian Army Shermans used in Burma were also Vs.

It looks like the most popular start date will be sometime in August.

I will PM Ratch and ask him to set up the user group and a further poll section (visible to user group members only) where we can decide the actual start.

Thanks to all who have taken part in this so far, hope to see you all signing up to the user group

Cheers

Stu
