Welcome to The Airfix Tribute Forum.

By signing up to these forum, you will not use the forum to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, violent, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise in violation of any law.

Do not impersonate other individuals or falsely represent yourself. Also, please do not create multiple accounts. If you wish to change your username, contact Admin staff. If you have problems logging-on, then again, contact Admin staff.

Political/Racist/Sexist/Religious Posts
Posts or entire threads which degenerate into such topics as listed in the above heading will not be tolerated and will be deleted immediately.

Rumours and Gossip and Other Sources of Information Concerning Airfix
ATF are often given exclusive information from Airfix and because of this, we do not indulge in the spreading of gossip and rumours but wait until the official announcements from Airfix. If anybody hears rumours then do not post them but by all means write to one of the Moderation Team and we will endeavour to find out the truth behind the rumours.  Other sources that appear to have come from Airfix must still be verified with Airfix before publication on this site.

We do have a hidden forum so that members can speculate or discuss rumours but it can only be accessed by members signing up to the relevant Usergroup called "Unofficial News of the Sprues".

Prohibited Conduct
Violation of these rules is grounds can lead to temporary suspension or banning permanently - without warning!

No profanity in subject lines, posts, signatures or avatars. This includes thinly veiled attempts to defeat the word filters by using asterisks or other characters to replace letters in profane, obscene, or vulgar words.

No posting of pornographic, violent or other objectionable material in your posts, avatar or signature.

No spamming.

No flaming of other members to incite or perpetuate an argument. Personal attacks or name-calling of members of this forum by other members of this forum is not permitted. This includes those attacks being carried out on forum elsewhere. Any ATF members who slag off ATF or make snide comments about ATF on other sites will be banned without warning. After all, why be a member of ATF if it is not to your liking? If you have a problem with ATF, then contact me or one of the Moderation Team.

As this is an Airfix Tribute site, I will not tolerate the sort of anti-Airfix sniping and insults that has existed and continues to exist elsewhere.  Some members have signed up here specifically to avoid such behaviour and so it is not welcome.  Now that does not mean that I don't want to see any criticism of Airfix kits.  Constructive criticism is welcomed, and some of the best threads on this forum concern the discussion of Airfix kits, what the problems are, how to correct them etc.  That is fine, but the moronic slagging off of Airfix and their kits is not.  At the time Humbrol/Airfix went into administration, there were lots of rumours spread around about how it happened and why.  Some of the rumours were quite libellous and are still being perpetuated even now.  This will not be allowed on ATF.

Do not make adverse comments about other forum, web sites or individuals who are not in a position to defend themselves on this forum. If you wish make comments, then you should make them on those forum, web sites and to those individuals. The same applies to models displayed on other sites too.

Do not post on behalf of a banned member and do not discuss banned members.  Any person who does so, or makes posts petitioning for the re-instatement of a banned member will be suspended. If someone has been banned, there is a very good reason for it and the decision is final and irreversible.

Do not post personal information about others (i.e. addresses, phone numbers, passwords, etc.).  You should also be wary of posting such information about yourself too.

Copyright
If you own the copyright of material then you can post it.

If you have permission to post material for which you do not own the copyright, then you can also post it.

If you do not have permission, then do not post the material until permission is granted from the copyright holder to use it.  Post a link to the picture instead. This includes pictures of models/box-art etc shown on other modelling sites and online shops!  You can photograph a box and it's contents solely for the purposes of a Group Build or Kit Review though.

The only exception to the rule on box-arts etc is that we have been given permission by Airfix to post their box-arts, catalogue images, flyers and so on. For more details on that, see this post.

Material which are regarded as public domain (i.e. copyright has expired or has been removed) can also be posted. BTW, a picture found on the Internet does not automatically make it public domain.  In these cases, please state that fact in your post and state the source of the photo.

These rules also apply to pictures on this forum. They cannot be used elsewhere without the permission of the owners of the pictures. Requests to use ATF pictures should be made to me.

Colour of Text
Please use the default of normal black text on this forum. Not everybody has perfect eyesight or perfect colour perception. Using different colours to black can be very troublesome when reading.  You may, however, use colour and/or italics for emphasis.

Text Speak
Do not use Text Speak on this forum. It is not necessary and can be hard for some people to understand.  So, please make posts in good, clear English.  Be sure to spell correctly otherwise it may not be possible to retrieve posts via the search facility!

Topics And Forums
Please try to make an effort to post your messages to the correct forum. Message in the wrong forum will be moved, or deleted. Also, cross-posts and double-posts will be deleted too.  Make sure that your post has a meaningful title such as "Advice wanted on how to ... " .  Just putting "Help" is actually not very helpful at all.

When posting in an existing thread, do not change the title!  Also, do not hijack a thread but make a new one instead.  If a thread needs splitting, then ask a member of the Moderation Team or myself to do so.

When you have made your post, please wait patiently for a reply. Remember that people do not sit at their PC's twenty-four hours a day waiting to answer posts. It is also bad form to follow-up your own posts asking why no one has answered yet.

When your post has been answered, do not then ask a different question in the same thread but start a new thread.

When quoting somebody else's post, only quote that part of the post that is relevant and change any images to links instead. This not only helps those members on slow connections, but is standard netiquette - the conventions that should be followed on Usenet, mailing lists, live chat, and Internet forums.

Do not insert blank lines under your post to "fill it out" but only include content. If you feel the need to have more of a space between your post and your signature then by all means use your signature for the blank lines - subject to the rules on signatures below.

Signatures and Avatars
No pictures or banners are to be used in signatures and they will be deleted immediately. Signatures themselves can be no more than 255 characters in length (admins are unlimited).  This is set by the forum hosts, not this site owner!  Signatures should also be no more than five lines deep, including any blank lines.

Avatars should be no bigger that 80x80 pixels in dimension and normal copyright rules apply. Avatars not meeting these requirements will be deleted without warning. Repeated breaches of these rules will lead to the avatar facility being removed from the member's profile.

E-Mail Account
You must have a valid e-mail account in your profile so a forum administrator can reach you. If you cannot be reached by email, you may be suspended without notice.  New members who provide a false email address on registration will have their account deleted.

Site Admininstration E-Mails
You will only receive important Site Administration emails if you sign up to them via the Usergroups link. These emails include Site maintenance periods which may require temporarily denying members access. Unsubscribing does not prevent you from receiving system emails, "watched topic" posts, emails from other members, or test emails that are sent out occasionally. I will still send out those very important emails informing members of matters pertaining to Airfix (such as the recent administration of Humbrol/Airfix and the subsequent buyout by Hornby).

Private Messaging
Private Messaging (PM) has been enabled on this forum and is just for that - private messaging.  Anyone found using this system for spamming other members will have their PM facility removed.

Complaints
If you have complaints about something or someone on this forum, please inform me or any of the Moderation Team of your concern by PM or email. Do NOT take action yourself either publicly on the forum or by PM.

Suggestions
All members are encouraged to make suggestions on ways to improve the forum. All suggestions are considered and wherever possible implemented.

Please abide by these rules.  They are there, after all, to ensure the smooth running and continuing success of the forum.

Thank you

I think it is time for yet another reminder as forum rules continue to be broken. They are there for a reason and I would hope that everybody will stick to them.

Of particular concern at the moment are the posting of copyrighted pictures and the disguising of profanities by the use of asterisks. Neither of these are allowed and are not just my forum rules but the rules of the forum hosts too. Remember too that this forum has a lot of young members too and I have a responsiblity to their parents that they are not confronted by bad behaviour, bad language etc. Yes, I know they probably hear and do worse in the playground - but this is not the playground!

Also, people are posting in the wrong forum, not searching to see if topics have been raised before making posts and not checking their Private Messages.

Some of these rules may seem a bit niggly but they are there to help the smooth running of the forum. So please, let's stick to the rules.

Dave

Remember too that this forum has a lot of young members too and I have a responsiblity to their parents that they are not confronted by bad behaviour, bad language etc. Yes, I know they probably hear and do worse in the playground - but this is not the playground! I have had to repeatedly remove offending text and change images to URLs.

Other problems are people are :

- posting in the wrong forum

- not searching to see if topics have been raised before making posts

- displaying over-sized images avatars, some of which are also breaching copyright rules.

Some of these rules may seem a bit niggly but they are there to help the smooth running of the forum. So please, let's stick to the rules.

Dave,

On other forums I have visited, there is a button on every post that allows it to be reported to the site admin/moderators. This might be helpful as we can at least share the load with regards to spotting possible transgressions - would it be possible here?

Also, if you need any more help with moderation during the day, I would be happy to assist - I seem to spend the whole day logged on anyway!

The forum hosts have been looking at having a "Report" button installed on their forum but it seems to be a low priority at present. We do have a "Support Ticket" function that works in a similar way but that is only available to Moderators and myself.

Thanks for the offer of your services as a moderator. I do not need any more at present and you will be considered when a need does arise - along with the other members who have volunteered their services! When that need does arise, I will make an announcement.

How about leaving a comment on the posts that you have edited to indicate that you have done so? That might help prod people so that they know what they have done doesn't comply with the rules.

A reminder about the posting of copyrighted pictures in posts or in the gallery or both. If you do not have permission from the copyright owner, then don't post them. That also means not putting them in the forum gallery using the "Attach File" function at all. Instead, you should find your own space to host the picture and then include a link to the image in your post, but do not display the image itself.

For full details of what is and is not allowed, refer to the "Copyright" section above.

A reminder of the rules is in order, I think. Please do not indulge in personal attacks, swearing or any other behaviour which is contrary to the rules at the top of this thread.

Thank you

All forum members, including the Moderation Team should re-acquaint themselves with the forum rules.  There are far too many occasions when the rules are being flouted by both regular members and the Moderation Team and there is no excuse for it.  These include swearing, personal attacks, posts on banned subjects, taking threads off-topic and ignoring the Moderation team's decisions. The rules are there for the benefit for all of us and have ensured the smooth running of the forum for the past two years or so.  Because things have been running smoothly people seem to think that they can now ignore the rules.  Well, it isn't going to happen so please, please think before you post and if necessary walk away before making a post that could be misconstrued as an attack or make a potentially inflamed situation even worse.

You are also reminded that anybody who has a complaint about anything on the forum should approach any of the Moderation Team in the first instance or to me directly if the complaint concerns the Moderation of the site.   I can assure everybody that their complaints will be heard sympathetically but if somebody complains because they have been constantly picked up for breaking the rules then they will not get any sympathy from me.
