Thanks chaps

Last night I gave it a coat of Klear and started adding the markings (decals). The original Airfix set had  yellowed a little so I decided to replace the Balkan crosses at least with some Techmod alternatives.

All went well with the exception of one of the fuselage crosses which would not budge once I laid it onto the kit so I have ended up with a wonky cross on one side which in turn has thrown out the alignment of the code letters.

On the shot showing the underside you can see the slight yellowing of the code letter decal film although it is not too bad, I like to think that the crew members who were tasked with repainting the aircraft had simply used a square mask over the codes thus leaving a backing of the original underside colour

The following pictures show the aircraft after a couple of coats of matt varnish. Like a fool I forgot to mask out the open  cockpit areas     so on removal of the masking it will look like the crew had a visit from one of those TV home make over presenters armed with a can of frosting spray

Cheers

Stu

Just a few small details needed to be added to finish the job, the aerial on the cockpit canopy and on the underside, the nose machine gun as well as the twin Mgs and finally the small rudders at the rear of the floats .

Here is the finished product

You can see the 'home make over' frosted glass effect on the pilots windscreen and the gunners canopy in this shot

My favourite shot, showing the only extra added detail a couple of drum magazines on the twin MGs, I just could not resist adding a little something

This is a really great old Airfix kit offering an enjoyable build of a good subject. My version was based on a very old boxing so there was absolutely no problem with fit of parts or flash, the only real challenge was the cleaning up of the mould line around the cowling (think that is what it  is called ), the cockpit canopy moulding is a little on the heavy side and, because of its age, the markings/decals in my kit had yellowed a little but this was easily (almost ) solved with a replacement sheet of Balkan crosses. These are minor gripes as built from the box you can get very reasonable results, by adding the available extra details, as shown over in Digs' marvellous build, an excellent model can be built.

So Airfix please, please, please, re-release this old gem

Cheers

Stu

Brilliant model Stu!

I'd certainly pick one of these up if I saw it in a shiny new Airfix box!

All the best
