Hi Dan,
Yes I have but haven't made a start on it yet.
Still fiddling on with Vacform SM74 and pondering over making the Fiat G50 for the WW2 Africa GB.
and the new AIRFIX Tempest, Meteor, Pucara, Strikemaster etc...
The Dornier is high on the list though.

Hi Paula and Dan,
Have made a slow start at the Dornier Do 17E kit A04014 "made in India".
So far the wings pieces have been assembled and the tailplane and fins cemented together. Fit of parts appears good and surface detail is quite nice considering the age of the kit. Nice recessed panel lines and not over-sized rivets. I do think however that the fin/rudders are over thick and could have done with sanding down on their inner faces before asembly - too late now!

Walk in the park? well maybe. Here is the state of play this evening.
The wings have been cemented together, and the tailplane and fin/rudders. The props and wheel have been cleaned up a little.

here are the two fuselage halves with all interior components installed and painted. Soon be time to join them

No problems encountered so far. Even though this kit is quite old it is one of the better offering from all those years ago. Anyone remember when it was first issued?

A little bit further on with this build.
here it is today

This is quite a good kit. The only difficulty so far has been the join between the wing and the fuselage on the top side. The fuselage appears to have a curious hump, just where it meets the wing, I have spent a lot of time filing and sanding this off. Even now it still is not flat as I think it should be. One of the fuselage halves had a faulty moulding in this position.
The other tricky operation was the assembly of the engine nacelles/undercarriage units. I got there in the end! Maybe it would be best to cement the two nacelle halves together, after inserting the small radiator grill, and then pushing the undercarriage legs and retraction struts into place afterwards.
One other thing is that I only realised that there was a decal for the instrument panel when I was looking at the decal sheet deciding which option to place for the E variant. No mention of an instrument panel decal on the instruction sheet!! Talking of the instrument panel this is curious moulding since it appears that the instruments are on its backside! Must be very confusing for the beginner!
Next stage is to attach the nose transparency and the cockpit one and the upper gun position cover
Then on with the painting. There is a slight chance now that I may finish this build by the end day of the group build!

Done a bit more to this build.
The transparencies have been epoxied in place, and the model has been painted Hu65 light blue undersides and Hu64 light grey
topside. This morning I have masked the top surface camouflage so that the brown (Hu29) can be applied. The masking was done with 1mm tape (from Vince at MFS). It took about 1 1/2 hours to put on, (a good test of patience?)! I remembered to put a new blade in the scalpel so that the masking tape cut easily. Also I have put a coat of Klear around the masking tape in an attempt to stop any paint creeping under it.
here it is now

I don't think I will meet the deadline for the close of this group build now but I will continue and try to get it finished as soon as poss.

Don't worry about the timing, Ron - the thread will stay open ad infinitum in the Group Builds Plus area anyway, so it doesn't matter.

Tonight I am at the "waiting for the paint to dry" stage.
The model has been masked off and the Hu29 brown applied and allowed to dry overnight. Then the brown was masked off and the Hu30 Green applied. I will be leaving this overnight to dry out thoroughly, then some small areas of the Hu64 grey will be repainted. After that the underside Hu65 light blue will be applied to the fuselage sides between the wing and tailplane and at the nose. Then four coats of Klear, application of the decals, some cockpit and nose transparency lining with pre-painted decal film strips and it will done, except of course from small final details, DF loop, maching gun and aerial to the top gondola and a small mast on the underside.

All done now -well almost.
Here is the completed model this evening

and a view of the decal strip lining on the birdcage bomb aiming position

and finally the incorrect size decals on the fuselage sides. They should be much smaller to allow for the German crosses to be placed opposite each other on the fuselage sides.

The kit is definitely spoiled by the decals. They are difficult to detach from the backing paper, tend to break up on application and in this kit the fuselage side decal numbers are oversized. The kit markings are based on the three view drawing in "Warplanes of the Third Reich" by William Green on page 115. For me they have been a big disappointment.
If I can find suitable aftermarket decals later I will certainly replace them.
I enjoyed building this kit though and taking part in the Medium Bombers Group Build. Congrats to all the others on their super models.
Final note for Ratch..this kit is definitely NOT a "walk in the park"!
