I have been making up a shopping list and doing a few rough sketch ideas although I probably will not get started until early November as I want to get a few of the outstanding builds out of the way first.

I'm dithering - I made the fatal error of looking online at the Waterloo box set after partaking of DRINK and am now the slightly dismayed owner of a flat-packed La Haye Sainte farmhouse and more toy soldiers than I can possibly face painting. And nice though the nostalgia trip might be, the freaking thing is HUGE, at least once it's installed on the TWO vacform bases the kit comes with so god knows where I would put it once finished. Perhaps it'll have to be the FCP after all!
Whatever, I think I'll finish the medium bomber build before starting this so I'm likely to be a late starter.

Where are you setting your diorama?
You can often give a bit of national character to a diorama by using appropriate colours and exterior decor.

Following on from your suggestion, I am using the FCP as a Battery post recieving fire co-ordinates that will be given to the 25pdr kit. so it probably depends on what schemes you can do using that (I havent looked in the box) but I think I would like to do it somewhere in france after D Day?
So what do you think? _________________ Cheers

OK.....Just after June 6 1944, puts your gun firmly in Normandy, so a Google Image Search for Normandy farmhouses might be productive.
Don't worry about finding an exact match.....It very likely won't happen. Look for a period photo of something similar for the context and a modern picture of a traditionally painted building for the colours.
In this time frame, your gun is very likely to be British or Candadian but almost ceratinly not American.....You should be able to get suitable markings from one of the members if you don't have them already.
Your battery command post will need some radio sets and an operator or two, who would be receiving 'fire missions' from observers in the front line. Plotters who work out how to lay the guns and so on. Some figures holding maps and others doing lots of pointing and shouting would be about right.
HTH & All the best
Sgt.S
PS - I reckon we should probaly continue this discussion in your thread, so we don't fill this section up too much! |

Hi Ian,
You are never to late to join an ATF GB!
Simply click the 'Usergroups' tab at the top of the page, select the 'Airfix Building Diorama GB' from the drop-down menu and apply to join.....I'll set you up a thread within the GB Forum as soon as I receive notification of your request.
If you have already decided what you intend to build, let me know in this thread and I'll customoise your thread title to suit.
Look forward to hearing from you soon, all the best
Sgt.S
PS - Rule limitations for this GB are that it must include one of the Airfix building kits, such as the 'Control Tower'.....However heavily customised it might end up! _________________ ATF Unverified Spam Appreciation Society - Founding Member
