What is a SIG?

Quote from the IPMS UK,
"A few years ago, IPMS (UK) sanctioned the formation of Special Interest Groups (SIG's) within the membership. These SIG's are formed and run by IPMS members and have the official backing of the Society and are allowed use of the IPMS name and logo. The idea was for members who have common interests in particular areas to be able to contact and meet other like-minded members, and so encouraging the exchange of information, and accumulation of expertise. To this end, SIG's exist for not only many areas of aviation, but also cars, ships, armour, figures, science fiction, and so on. Many modellers will have interests in one or two particular subjects above most others, so this aspect is what SIG's set out to cover. However, many modellers will also appreciate that their interest in a subject goes above and beyond the modelling aspect - it will quite probably include historical research, photography, etc., all of which is most welcome in a SIG. All SIG members are encouraged to join IPMS so that they can gain full benefits of membership of the society. There are now over 50 SIGs within the IPMS (UK) covering all aspects of the hobby. Further details about the SIG's can be found on this website."

Do I have be a member of IPMS to joing the SIG?
No, but all SIG members are encouraged to join IPMS so that they can gain full benefits of membership of the society.

Why do you want my date of birth?

To identify any members who may be minors, to ensure their safe participation in SIG events with the appropriate parental permission.

What about the data protection act?
The only information we will keep are those which the member has supplied to us. We're more than happy to comply with the legislation and allow members to view the data the SIG holds on them, according to the "subject access" rules.

Do I have to join ATF?

The SIG forum is hosted on the ATF, so if you wish to participate in the SIG forum, you will also become a member of the ATF as the administration software is common to both forums. It is up to the individual member whether they wish to take part in the ATF.

Who are the founding members and what do they do?
The founding members were the initial IPMS members who formed the SIG and submitted the application to the IPMS UK.
