Looked at the photos posted by Matt as well and agree that the whole think looks to be steel grey.
Is it possible also some of the torpedos where in brass ?

Looked at Lynn Ritgers Modellers notes, he has the front of the Torpedo in Light ghost grey the rear portion is brass rubbed with a brownish grease.
I am going to fit the bomb to mine

How about http://img.photobucket.com/albums...Torpedoes/MkXIIITorpedoUSAFM1.jpg

Or...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums...Torpedoes/MkXIIITorpedoUSAFM2.jpg

Not sure if this one was from a sub or an aircraft as they all used the (appallingly bad) Bliss-Leavitt MkXIII. However, colour-wise I'd say it was silver/steel at the front and gunmetal at the rear.

Some Midway torpedo trivia: one of the only US torpedoes to strike its target actually saved Japanese lives: It broke apart without detonating and the nose section bobbed to the surface, whereupon it was used as an impromptu liferaft for some Japanese sailors.

Also White Ensign ACUS 06 = FS25189

They also do Bronze green ACUS 30

They are satin enamels £1.55 per tin, I have never used, but I have used Xtracolour which seem to never dry and smell horrible.
