As I'm GB leader I suppose I ought to be making some progress!

Here's the upgraded engine trial fitted to the fuselage:

And here's the beginnings of the White Ensign etched interior

That engine looks good it will be a shame to put the cowl over it.

Ah, well I'm not going to! For two reasons - firstly that it would be a shame to cover the engine up, and secondly that the cowl won't actually fit over it. The kit cowling is very thick which means that Airfix's rendition of the engine is necessarily under scale. In addition I believe that the cowling itself is a little under scale. Not by much but it does mean that there's little hope of being able to thin it enough. I have some photos which show the circumferential cowling panels removed but with the nose ring still in place, which is how I will depict it. The 'back' of the engine will be covered by the cooling gills, which I will scratchbuild from thin plastic card.

Quite a bit - a very comprehensive cockpit with sidewalls, bulkheads, seats, guns and mountings etc. I also have the exterior set which has wing fold details, bomb aimer's doors etc

Great stuff.....That machine gun & mount look like a very tricky little assembly!

All the best

That'll teach me... I omitted to make the cut-out in the lower nose to allow the bomb-aimer's doors to be fitted before fitting the cockpit tub to one of the fuselage sides. In attempting to do this as carefully as possible, I still managed to lose one of the sets of pedals (controls were duplicated in the rear cockpit) and bend the D/F loop - then the latter pinged off into the middle distance when I attempted to straighten it. Oh well...

I'm fairly new to dealing with etched metal, and very new to dealing with it in these quantities. It's proving an illuminating experience.

Wheel wells went in last night too, and I fitted one of the wing fold ribs as well - these have both the inner and outer section ribs in one piece, and the advice is to fit them to the inner wing half but wait until post-painting before attaching the outer wing halves.

Delicate business, but I'm nearly done with the brass now. I was considering plunge-forming a canopy but think that now as I have missed the deadline anyway I might take the time and order a vacform one.

I'm so pleased it's not just me

My deepest sympathy    I know exactly where you're coming from

Yup.....If you hadn't sent me all that Dragon etch it would have been tarpaulin time for more than one of my Shermans!

I absolutely hate the stuff.....But it does look really good!

All the best

I'm beginning to hate the stuff too - probably won't look that good once I've finished with it, either!!!

I've decided to brush paint - masking with all that etch around will be asking for trouble!!! Might try the much vaunted decal strips for the cockpit.

Fortunately, my wife found the missing bits yesterday so those have been carefully reattached! I think the brass will make a big difference. I intend to pose the canopy in its fully open position, which means just the windscreen and two small fixed portions attached, with each crew member's canopy slid over or under the fixed parts. Adding the under fuselage bomb-aimer's window lets plenty of light into the cockpit as well, so unlike some detailing jobs, the work shouldn't get hidden from view like it is so often.

Yet more work on the pesky interior. It's all in now though so I can close up the fuselage. Here's some pics:

And the engine, painted and dry-brushed, and with rods added between cylinders as per the real thing.

Agonisingly glacial, but progress continues:

That's main assembly mostly done and I hope progress will be swifter from now on.
