Thanks Andy, I am contemplating the purchase of some brass sights from Milicast.
Cheers

I'd thought about picking some up too, but I don't think I'm going to bother.....I have the feeling we are going to see a new Bofors Gun kit in 1/72 fairly soon.....IBG have already released a Bofors Tractor variant of their Bedford QL.
Just a thought, all the best

Good point, I have one of the IBG Bofors tractors on order, thought it best to have a look at it before I order more.
Cheers

I'll get one at some point, but I'm after a trio of QLTs first.
All the best
Sgt.S
PS - The Fire Engine might look good on an airfield diorama too.....Finally an aircraft and supporting vehicle that are actually in scale with each other! |

Nearing completion on this one now, here is how it looks after a little more paint work. Just remains to add the unit markings and dusty it up a bit.
May yet infest in some Milicast brass sights for this just to finish it off.
Cheers

Thanks Ratch
Not sure which unit to tie it to as yet, may put something early war on it then perhaps it could be used somewhere on one of the Operation Sealion dioramas. Will have to see what I have in the decal bank
Cheers

Really nice work there Stu, the edge highlighting has brought the detail on the gun out a treat.
I see you fell victim to the hidden mould marks on the front of the gunshield though.....I had to sand mine back flat to get rid of them, losing the little detail there was!
If you need any specific decals, drop me a PM and I'll see what I've got.
All the best
Sgt.S
PS - My CDSW is now brown too as I liked your colour sheme so much! _________________ ATF Unverified Spam Appreciation Society - Founding Member

Yes I started to sand them back as you will probably have noticed at the lower section of the shield but then decided to save the details and put up with the marks, they could not have been put in a worse place. On future models I will build new sheilds from plastic card as this one is also a bit too thick, looks like a piece of armour plate taken from the front of a Tiger
Cheers

Could not resist the temptation, purchased some Milicast etched gun sights for the Bofors, they are by far the fiddliest things that I have ever attempted to put together, my hat is off to all those brave chaps that do such splendid work with etched brass on small scale ship kits .
Here is the etched fret prior to me getting my great paws on it
And here they are assembled, I had better not repeat some of the language that was flying around as I attempted to attach that little rectangle of brass at the rear of the sights. In the background you can see the original kit part...no contest really.
The assembly in place on the gun, I have since painted them, they are very fragile. I had intended to get these for all of my Bofors kits but do not think that they would stand the wear and tear of the wargame table
Just have to put the unit markings on now and another group build will have finally been put to bed,,exactly where I am going too
Cheers

Looking good, stuzzar
It reminds me of my own AA GB project.
I really ought to get it done.
All the best from Jesper. _________________ Feel free to visit my Portfolio. |

It makes the world of difference to the look of the gun, just a shame that it is so fragile.

Finally completed this one, I decided to go with the 7th Armoured Division markings that come with the kit so added small patches of Klear wherever needed and slide the decals onto them. They were then sealed with Klear and the gun and tractor were given a couple of coats of matt varnish and a light dusting with powdered pastels, here is the finished item.
All in all a beautiful little kit, the sort of thing that Airfix do really well and should do more of. The addition of the etched brass gun sights finish it off, in my opinion the part that they replace certainly looks nothing like the actual thing, the only draw back to the brass parts is their fragility.
I may set this gun in a small diorama but that is for the future. So, another Group Build finally bites the dust, thanks to Hawk for leading it and apologies for the delay in finishing
Cheers
