After a couple of weeks break here's an old car that is seldom discussed and hardly ever asked for as a re-release.

The Maserati Indy.

Here's the short blurb from the History section...

Maserati Indy               03406-3
1/32 scale. Available from 1973 to 1977. Reissued in 1979.
R. Humm

I had never heard of this car before and it's curious why Airfix chose to do this one? Personally I would have thought something like the 'Jensen Interceptor' would have been a much better car to kit.

Here's the sprues.

The kit looks simple enough. Those with keen eyes will spot it's the same driver you get with the Escort Mk1. (It's good to see the little bloke has got himself a decent job and got rid of the old Ford!!)

Also did the 'Indy' come as a Right Hand Drive? I thought some of these oddball sports cars were 'left hookers' only?

The Instructions.

While on holiday in the Vendee region of France last year I found a car museum with the Indy in it.
So I got a couple of snaps for future reference.

Cheers!

I think somebody in a senior position doing the decision making had an exotic taste in cars! I would've picked a Lambo rather than a Maserati and for the Ford 3L I would've substituted with GT40. These subjects don't seem to have been picked with any commercial considerations in mind, unlike say the Porsche 917 which must've been a dead cert seller.

I remember building one of these back in the 70's and IIRC it was a nice kit. As you say, not the most obvious choice of subject but it is probably the only Maserati Indy kit ever made and I for one would like to see it back.

Maybe the driver used the Escort  during the week and the Maserati at weekends.

Lovely stuff - these are the kind of kits I'd like to see in the future

Has anyone built one?

I would also like to see this reissued, along with the other Series 3 1/32 Modern Cars, Jaguar 420, Vauxhall Victor Estate, Austin Maxi and Morris Marina TC. These are really expensive to get on eBay. The Ford Capri could also be retooled back from the Krackle Kat.

Are there any plans to carry on with this feature? Really enjoyed it!

Gosh, I missed this one.   I built one of these many, many moons ago.   If I recall, it's still sitting in a box in my Mom's loft - might see if I can dig it out and restore it.

Yes I will continue this, but to be honest I've been a bit busy of late.

Watch this space (or rather another thread in the series!!)

Cheers!

Excellent news. My intention wasn't to pressurise, just let you know I enjoyed it.   Looking forward to the new threads.
