Ayup All..
Slowly getting there...
Today i finished masking those pesky Canopies... I've NEVER known so much trouble in all my modelling life... (Mind you the moulds are so worn, the tracing lines are impossibly faint..)
But when i got home after screwing them up at work, (see pic above) I decided to sort it out, Once and for all, took it all off and re- masked for about the fourth/fifth and DEFINITELY the Last time; but at least i now have 'guide-lines' to know how thick the 'frames should be... LOL...
ALL the above bad masking was removed and BINNED ! but i licked enuff paint in them with the Interior colour to fill them in ...
The Canopies' Interiors are now Hu 78 in Acrylic, and the wheel wells/around the edge of the wing fold too. But looking at the Firefly, I've decided it now looks like a VERY ill Saluki... I have fitted the Cannon covers in the wings, and will attempt the Bomb Hanger slots... I also glued the PE Undercarriage doors to 5 Thou Plasticard, trimmed round 'em, and they too are ready for Priming before Hu78 too...
Tomorrow will be to finish off the Main wing Sections, and maybe get them primed by close of Tomorrow... And get the Canopies fitted after touching up inside the Cockpit, once and for all, and see where we are left...
I also have PE for the Oil Cooler Louvres, but will have to re-scribe all the lost panel lines for them to be Located... sounds like FUN !
Oh, and i still have to re-make pivots for the Ailerons... Micro-Drills out ! _________________ Airfix Member 022... Jolly Boy.

Keep at it, starting to look distinctly Firefly shaped.
Altogether now: 'Take my love, take my land, take me where I cannot stand...'
First to spot what the heck I'm talking about will not get a prize |

Ayup All...
Some sad progress to report...
I finished my filling, sanding and rescribing, got the canopies on and sorted the wing Bomb Hangers and Ailerons out, and all seemed well, but, after i'd sealed the canopies in with, again, Mr surfacer 1000, there were one or two areas that still neded primer. (I'd forgotten to remove some Tamiya tape) so i removed it and decided to spray some more Rattle-can stuff on it yesterday...
Long story short, I managed to fill all my carefully done panel lines in and it looked a real Dogs Dinner... so, out with the Fair(e)y Power spray this morning (off sick with a REALLY dodgy tummy) squirt and wait. After 2 hours, ( I had to get up real early ) i washed it off but the primer stayed on...
After scraping for half an hour, bits started falling off quite literally. props, tails, canopies, etc, etc. and the plastic went soft... I don't think Vintage Plastic was made for this stuff, and after a short while, all i had was a mulchy mess. so all my hard work has been lost...
I shall try to find a less sophisticated kit to repace it in GB Plus. but at this moment in time i feel a little downhearted and have hit the wall. nothing seems to be going right at the moment... _________________ Airfix Member 022... Jolly Boy.

Hi Stu,
Very sorry to hear about all your woes.
Maybe it is time for a change of tactics.
Why not start using prepainted decal film for lining your transparencies? It is time consuming and patience testing but gives more freedom to alter things if it doesn't go well.
But then you have probably tried it in the past and have not had success.?
Time to start again perhaps?
best
Ron. |

Checked this thread to see if you've been working on this during your week off Stu; please do, I'm looking forward to seeing it!
If you're up for a quick build to cure your block, I'm happy to give you a race _________________ --.. --- -. . / -.-. .- .-.. .-.. / .-- --- --- -.. |
