It will be the Airfix 1/72 Typhoon 1B (01027). Both of the squadrons represented in the kit saw service during the campaign.

Airfix Typhoon!
It defies the Trades Description Act in many ways.
If you insist on building one of these ( ) I would suggest you acquire a Matchbox Tempest. This will yield a nice four blade prop and correct size tailplanes, as these were virtually standard by D-Day. Also it has a hood that is something like the correct shape and the rad matrix can be made to fit. The undercarriage components from a Frog 'car door' Tiffie are useful as well, the tyres at least don't look like shirt buttons and it has proper legs.
I still get the shakes when I see one of these kits!

Sorry folks, nothing in the GB rules says it has to be accurate...

Not really, just don't want to spend fifteen months on it.

If it helps, the Hobby Boss kit has both props in it (both are better than the Airfix offering too) so you can build both kits without having to sacrifice one. You also get more accurate gear doors that you can at least use as a template for scratching some replacements for the Airfix offerings.
Airwaves do a resin Normandy sand filter as well, and don't forget the air intake filter behind the scoop (see this month's Model Aircraft Monthly)
The Hobby Boss kit has invasion stripes in the decals, and some not-bad rockets. |

Thank you for the information but I really do just want to build it straight out of the box.

I shall look forward to seeing Colins Hobbyfixbox Tyhpest build Alternatively paint invasion stripes on the chicken and submit that ! Although I think the chicken needs a few aftermarket resin products to make it look like a chicken |

I've never built an Airfix Tiffie, is it a bit rough then?

I've built one and if you squint a bit and make sure it has the light behind it, it can be made to look not exactly unlike a 'tiffie' |

Colin,
Don`t let them get you down. I did a couple about 15 years ago when it was the only game in town.
When you looked at them they were obviously Typhoons. Forget about the rivet counters.
Will try to photo them to-morrow and put them in the Airfix gallery. _________________ Roger. |

You can't count rivets on a Tiffie, they're all flush...
My post was intended as banter, hence the profusion of smiley's and for your information I ain't no rivet counter

Hi peebeep,
I get the impression that the banter has possibly misfired and that Colin is going to forget about building a Typhoon.
I was merely trying to get him to stay with it and I apologise if you thought that I was specifically referring to yourself as a rivet counter. _________________ Roger. |

I think this thread has just developed a mind of its own.
If there are any mods/admins around who can delete the entire thread, or at least lock it, I'm happy to start again.
No further comments please.
Thanks
