Welcome to the Airfix Space/Sci-fi What-if Group Build for which Farmroad38 is Group Build Leader. The build will take place from 1st July until 1st September 2007. This is the "Chat" thread for the Group Build and any reference material should be posted in the Reference Section.

If you wish to take part in the Group Build, click on the Usergroups link at the top of the page. Then:

Go to the lower of the two drop-down boxes where it says "Join a Group"

Select "Group Build - Space/Sci-fi What-if"

Click "View Information"

Click on "Join Group".

Adrian will then approve your membership of the Group Build and create a thread for you to record progress of your build.

That's all there is to it!

If you are not sure how Group Builds work, you can read the rules here.

Dave

Out of pure interest for this build, does everything have to be airfix, because i have some spare bits of warhammer which i could use which would work really well.

Not everything, no, but the end result must be mostly Airfix.

It was Mylar foil that was used on the LM, I think. I don't know what it is made of but to me it just looks coppery!

Looking at various pics of the LM, the foil on the legs appears to be a different ( more coppery ) colour than that on the descent stage itself

Can't be the Apollo 5 LEM, though ... that one (LM-1) perished when re-entering earth's atmosphere.

Yep ... some while! I suspect it may be Apollo 15's "Falcon", just from the way it is sitting on the surface (as in "not very upright").

@ Sgt.Squarehead:

Those "crazy" shadows would be normal for moon pics, which lead a lot of people to assume that the whole thing was faked (official Chinese statement to that effect was even issued). Google "moon hoax" and go really crazy ...

On the moon I think.

Beside that I'm lucky enough to have a roll of industrial Mylar tape!
It's transparent orange-yellow so if you place it over metal foil you can't tell the difference from the one you see on the LEM.

Ayup Bernd...

Looking over at NASAs site, I think it IS Apollo 15 and not 5...

There you go, solved !

Does that count for all the landings, or just the first?

The lot!

TBH, I'm not sure this is the right place, or indeed the right forum for this particular discussion.

For what it's worth, all the best
