I can probably dig out a Jeep windscreen Ratch if you cannot find the missing one.

Cheers

I may take you up on that windscreen Stu    A fingertip search of the crime-scene has failed to reveal the offending item     I have a picture of one folded down on the bonnet with a canvas cover and camouflage netting draped over, so I could replicate that at a pinch

Anyways, today I've been touching up paintwork. When dry the vehicles will be Kleared and decalled, Kleared adain then weathered    Tracks will be added to the Buffalos, which will then be painted using acrylics, then Matt Cote before positioning on the baseboard    So quite a bit more to do

Very nice indeed!

I'm starting to like Allied vehicles more than German ones.....Which could be a very expensive change in tastes!

All the best

Hi Ratch,

Newbie Baracal here - Crikey, your work really gives me some inspiration!  I have a headful of ideas of what I want to achieve with my newly rediscovered interest of all things 1:72!!  Trouble is, I'm really impatient for my "skills" to improve and am afeared that what's in my head (which is magnificent and realistic)will turn out below par due to lack of know-how etc.  Still, if you don't try, you don't learn I suppose.

I'm tempted to get me a command post and use your pics and guidance to help me through a first proper diorama - is that OK?

Thanks for all the great ideas (and to all the other ATF vets)

B

Thanks for the kind words

Hi Baracal,
No problem    We all pick up different techniques from each other and from other places    Some of the techniques I tried out on this one were advised by members of my local modelling club
I too am inspired by many of the talented modeller who post on this site, and the best thing is that we all share our knowledge and help each other get better (something that doesn't happen on some competitive sites)    As for the impatience bit, we all have to get over that    The only way I improve is by constant practice, stuff going wrong and having to find a solution that works for me
I look forward to seeing to seeing your work

I buy trees as I see them, usually from railway stockists - these usually have the best scenic stuff on the shelf
I can't recall where those ones were from specifically

For the record, here are my notes for the Forward Command Post

Review:
The light grey mouldings carry the copyright of 1975, but are crisply done with little or no flash. Detail is nicely defined and there are many accessories supplied in the set.
Build:
I cut a piece of MDF approximately 10” x 21” for the base of this diorama. To this I added a piece of polystyrene sheet, cut with a serrated knife and stuck to the board with PVA. Plaster bandage was cut into strips and used to cover the base, and then ground scatter materials applied. I added two propriety trees to the base. When thoroughly dry I brushed Winton oil colours 2: Burnt Sienna & 35: Burnt Umber over the exposed edges of the base.
I chose to mount the building on a sheet of Will York Stone Paving, and cemented the walls before fixing them to the base. The walls were painted with Tamiya Buff to represent the mortar between the stones. I then used Winsor & Newton’s Artisan water mixable oil colour 076: Burnt Umber and 422: Naples Yellow Hue in a variety of ratios for the stones and plasterwork. I added more rubble to the interior of the ruin by roughly breaking some polystyrene sheet and painting it with the water mixable oil colours used previously, and by breaking and cutting various lengths of balsa strip. I decided to use Eduard item 72 428-camouflage netting and painted a random camouflage in various colours.
Meanwhile, painting of the figures and accessories continued, and work started on the vehicles to accompany the building. Back to the baseboard, the Forward Command Post and two sandbag walls were fixed with PVA. Although I have entered the completion date as 30th October, work on the diorama continued with the construction of vehicles and positioning of additional components.
The big tree was fixed with my hot-melt glue gun. PVA was used to secure the models to the board. Evo-Stick Contact Adhesive was used to fix the figures to the board. I tried to simulate track marks to the Buffalos with earth scatter.
