...and now the cabin is together with the chassis, making the bottom half of a car....

Thanks Jesper.

I can't really do more construction until I have the bodywork fully painted so this will slow for a bit til the painting's done.

Last night disaster struck

We were doing a bit of other modelling, including opening up a new (to us) kit in a huge box and doing a bit of work on it. I didn't move the box out of the way and, when moving round, stumbled and my darn great size 11 came down on the box with the M-1 bits in

I stepped ont he main transparency and heard a crunch  Silence  Silence  Sofa

Yep, it's split and cracked all over the show. Luckily it just looks like a crack in the windscreen as most of the damge is to the top section.

So now it'll just look like a BMW that's been in Toulouse for a few years - most cars round here are dented with cracked windscreens.

Don’t despair Dan.
I had a similar problem with my Lamborghini Silhouette
I made a new windscreen from a piece of overhead foil traced from a paper template.
Doing the same with the smaller side windows.

It worked out fine as you can see in my portfolio.

Your windscreen is almost the same shape, so I think you can do the same quite easily.

I'll think about that - thanks Jesper.

In the meantime, I slowly added coats of paint over the weekend and did a bit of sanding back between each coat. The result is a gorgeous lemon yellow colour. The paint, of course, is matt, so now needs a couple of coats of Klear and a final coat of Gloss Cote to bring up the finish:

Nice bodywork. I think all supercars should be painted in bright colours.

Best of luck with the windscreen,

A bit of progress on this - I've added the (original and cracked) windscreen, which actually doesn't seem too bad, along with some of the BMW badges:

And, after a couple of days of adding all the details into place and a bit of tidying up - the M1 is complete!

This is actually a very nice kit and I'd recommend it to anyone. One thign that will need sorting out is to use a bit of metal rod to replace the rear axle. It isn't long enough and the wheel on the back right sits too close to the body, too far away from the wheel arch.

More images in the gallery.

That's just fabulous! I've really enjoyed watching this take shape. And the time you took to build up the body paint really paid off!

Nice car! and model, Dan.

It's a shame it never got a more powerfull motor. It could have been a real supercar.
