I just received the 0-4-0 Pug and the Drewry Shunter from Dapol. They both have been excellently moulded with all parts being crisp and free from flash. I have sent for a replacement for the Pug thought as all the parts were covered in a sticky oil. At first I though it was a release agent so I tried removing it with warm soapy water, even after several attempts it didn't shift.

Sorry if I ask a stupid question, or poke in a wasp nest. It is not my intention in any way.
But I simply have to ask.

How come Dapol kits are accepted in a GB when the normal procedure always is “anything with an Airfix logo on and nothing else”?
Is there something I have missed, or don’t know about the Kitmaster => Airfix => Dapol relationship?

When the concept of Group Builds was devised by the Admin Team, it was decided that there would be very few participants in Airfix only railway builds (due to the scarcity of Airfix boxings, and the fact that there are no railway items in the current range) and we decided to allow Dapol packaged ex-Airfix kits to allow greater participation

That’s a fair answer, Ratch.

I have two Airfix boxed engines, the BR Mogul and the Harrow, in my stash.
But they were started, and badly so, when I got them.
Otherwise I think I would have joined with one of them, since they are really nice kits.

Happy GB to all.

Thanks Feanor.
If I can find my BR Mogul I will be delighted to join.
But I warn you, it will be a rebuild from a rather badly assembled model.

If I find it, I will be really glad to join.

Ayup Jesper...

I'll sort it in the morning. Have you any brake fluid to marinate it in overnight ? that will dis-assemble everything for you to start from scratch...

I have decided not to join.
I simply have far too many models in various states of construction at the moment.
And it wouldn’t really be fair to the rest of the group, joining with a restoration/rebuild project.

Maybe I’ll make a demo build later, when I find out what to do with my BR Mogul and Harrow.

With kind regards from Jesper.

Ayup Jesper...

I'm so sad to hear this.

You would have been very welcome, and if you change your mind, let me know.

Best, Stu.

Can the old (1970 something) plastic really survive that, without going soft or deform?
Wasn’t that what went wrong with a Firefly a short time back here on this forum?

Oops, sorry Feanor, I didn’t realise it was yours.

If brake fluid is safe enough, I will try to get some.
Soaked in an airtight container over night?

- Jesper.

Ayp Jesper...

No worries, Stuff happens.

It was Fairy Power Spray wot did the deed !

BAC stripped (and it came apart as well) his 'Golden Hind' with Brake Fluid. TBH, it scares the Bejaesus out of me, so I think I'll give it a miss myself...

Ayup All...

I'd like to say a BIG thankyou to all who've participated in, and encouraged us in this great Rail GB. All the builds have been, as ever, Fantastic. and i hope my attempt at the 'Star' didn't drop the Quality bar too far !

It's been a great experience for me, as i've never built a train before, and has taught me something about forward planning too, but has left me wanting to make another.... move over 'City of Truro'

Thanks To you all... let's do it again in the Future.
