Close-up of the turret cut-out. Plasticard has been put in as extra surface for the balsa to be secured to:
Plugged with balsa, and filled with dope 'n' talc:

Rich is probably better to answer the question.
All of the later Mk Is were constructed without, once operations of the type ceased and provision of more recent power-operated turret training types was improved.
There were about 6700 of this Mark built.
