Here's a thought.
Last week, I built the new tool Bf109-G6. This week, I'm building the old tool Bf109-G6 so I can compare the two tools side by side. I intend to do the same when the new tool JE*J is released. Then it ocurred to me that an 'Old tool, new tool' GB might be of interest.
The rules would be fairly simple. Any kit where the tool has been replaced could be built. You can build the old tooling, or the new (or newer) one as long as it came in an Airfix box. Among the kits that could be built include:
B17
Lancaster
Bf109-G6
Spitfire MkIX
Hurricane
Dakota
Stuka
Mustang
Wellington
Fw190
There are others, but I can't remember them all. _________________ Collectable kits built here. Baggies, blisters or boxed. You collect 'em, but I'll build 'em. |

This idea sounds OK to me, Spudgun.
But are we talking about kits just being replaced by some other producer’s kits;
Or only kits Airfix themselves made a new tool of?

Others for the list include the reboxed italeri Chinnook and the new Airfix Hawk.
As for the above list
The Wellington is ex MPM
The Dakota is ex Italeri
B-17G is ex Academy?
Are the Mustang and Hurricane ex Heller?
I would be surprised if anybody would be willing to build the 1958 Fw190D and the 1978 version as I should imagine the 58 version is pretty rare. |

The idea of a "then and now" GB has been floated before, probably in conjunction with the Mk.IX. Certainly has potential, but as most, if not all, the subjects are aircraft it'll fall under the auspices of an Aircraft GB.
The replacement or new tool would have to appear in an Airfix box to qualify e.g the Academy B.17 replacing the original Airfix tool.
