As mentioned in the Chat thread I have a copy of 'Aircraft of the Many' by Michael J.F. Bowyer

This gives a fairly comprehensive rundown of units, serials and even some individual aircraft letters that flew operational sorties during 5/6 June and shortly after.

PM me if there's any particular info you'd like me to try and find in this worthy tome!

I'm open to requests for information about Airborne Forces Equipment, gliders, Tugs etc.
I can, and do, bore for England on the subject, but I'm happy to pass information on.

Dear VX275,
Do you have line drawings for an air portable QF 6pdr Mk III. I have some photos and some sketches I've cooked up but it would be great to start from a set of plans.

Thanks in advance if you are able to provide.

Regards,
James

Here's a taster.

Beautiful! I can use this profile photo to make my modifications. With my skill level and 1.76 scale your photo is just the ticket. I have a few photos myself, but none that provide the overall perspective yours offers.

Thank you very much.

As I am making a few LCVPs for this build I guess I should put up some reference material

Historical reference

If you plan to build an LCM or LCVP then it is probably best to read the manual first

http://www.history.navy.mil/library/online/surfskill.htm#contents

Planning to load your LCVP with troops ready for the assault? The following link will show you who stands where

http://www.geocities.com/eco16thinf/LCVP.html

http://www.hnsa.org/ships/lcvp.htm

http://www.insidelst.com/LCVP.htm

http://www.strijdbewijs.nl/landing/landeng2.htm

http://www.sproe.com/l/lcvp.html

Italeri 1/35th scale LCVP

I find that looking at larger scale kits of the subject I am making can often supply useful reference material, here are several reviews and builds of the Italeri LCVP

Restored LCVPs

And some general D-Day references

A site inspired by Saving Private Ryan that nether the less contains lots of useful information

Perhaps one of the finest websites dedicated to the Operation Overlord

101st Airborne

A look at the 101st Airbornes famous assault on the gun positions at Brecourt Manor for anyone who may wish to knock together a quick diorama, nice diagrams

Dear fellows,
I'm going to be in France later this month. I'll probably get to Bayeux, Arromanches, and (you won't be surprised) the US airborne museum at Sainte Mere Eglise.
Please let me know if there are particular pieces of hardware you'd like me to photograph. I'll do my best to get you some images.

Does anyone know the whereabouts of an LCA? There used to be one at the museum in Arromanches in the 1990s, but it was junked in about 2001 (I was so sad - what a loss).

Feel free to leave me a message if you want some photos from these museums. Won't be back to my computer until 10 September or so.

Best regards,
James

For those not in the know:

AEAF stripes are: 18 inches in width on small aircraft
and 24 inches on medium and large ones

I know it's abit late in the day for references but we do get late comers and people who wish to make a second, third etc build

So here goes

I found a brochure about operations from RNAS Lee-on-Solent (HMS Daedalus) during D-Day in the loft today.

Some of the information inside differs from the list provided by Colin in the following ways

2 Squadron and 268 Squadron were both based at Daedalus on D-Day not Gatwick, Sussex

414 Squadron (RCAF) was based at Daedalus on D-Day not Odiham, Hants

The Fleet Air Arm squadrons flew a mixture of Seafire Mk LIIIs, Seafire Mk LIIcs  and Spitfire Mk Vbs not purely Seafire Mk LIIIs as it states on Colins list

Also according to the brochure there was an US Navy squadron operating from Daedalus during D-Day, VCS-7 (Naval Observation Squadron) flying borrowed Spitfire Mk Vbs (Brochure lists VOS-7 but other sources  list VCS-7

These sites http://www.spitfiresite.com/histo.../2008/01/spitfires-in-us-navy.htm and http://daveg4otu.tripod.com/airfields/los2.html
detail VCS-7s time at Daedalus

This site is product info on a Corgi dicast of one of VCS-7s Spits which is a good reference point http://www.flyingmule.com/products/CG-AA31906
