I will post some more views showing the tower and hangar .
The bus in the background is actually an EFE diecast of a BEA airport bus.............it is picking up some passengers who's flight has been diverted due to bad weather.
I have built a number of diecast models of RAF vehicles produced by BW Models and these will appear in the background..........one of them is an RAF Bedford bus...........watch this space.
The T2 hangar and control tower are both scratchbuilt from artists card. The Shackleton sideways on in the hangar depicts the actual way that it was done at RAF St Mawgan . The Shackleton's wingspan was too great for the T2 hangar width so the aircraft were slid sideways on trolleys that ran on rails into the hangars for major servicing. |
An idea conceived with the introduction of the Lincoln. That concept was tried out at RAF Kelstern in 1944, an aircraft side placed into a hangar on rails !! _________________ "Well Chaps ... my watch says time to go ..." |
