Hi all,

I am yet another new member and had no idea this forum existed until I 'stumbled' upon it while searching for reference photos for the Severn Class lifeboat I am building.

I am a returnee to modelling, like most I have not done this since childhood I imagine but I am THOUROUGHLY enjoying my return.  It all started with an impromptu purchase of the Revell (is that a swear word on here?) 1/72 Hawk in Red Arrow livery while on holiday.  I have since joined the Airfix club, completed a SAR Sea King and am currently working on a number of different models including, big breath in, 1/72 Supermarine Seafire (awaiting paint), 1/72 Martlett (awaiting paint too), 1/48 Hughes 500 (mid build) and the lifeboat afore mentioned.

I am starting off with building models that I have a some kind of link with, the first two are from the joining kit from the club but the Hughes is as I flew in one a couple of weeks agao as part of my current operational deployment to Cyprus with the UN and the lifeboat as my kids are members of the RNLI club and they love everything about them.

I am going to end with my first question on here (apologies if it is in the wrong place) but I have gone as far as purchasing the compressor and syphon feed and gravity feed airbrushes but am unsure as to a mix ratio for thinning?  I am using humbrol acrylics as I like the pots and the lids are great for brush dipping.

I will probably ask this in the appropriate forum in a while but, for now, Hello all and I hope to suck you dry of modelling knowledge and in time provide some of my own.  In time perhaps meet a few of you?

Till then...

Chris

Revell isn't a swear word here.  Italeri is (I'm kidding!)

When it comes to thinning paint for airbrushing, thin it to "the consistency of milk" as they say.  In other words, really, really, really thin.

Ayup Chris...

Welcome to the ATF, Best on the Web...

On the side of the pot, the ratio given is a 2:1 mix of paint to water. start there and adjust to your own preference. Obviously you must use the same 'Measure' for both paint AND water to preserve the ratio.

HTH...
