Well lets begin, with the obligatory sprue shots. My offering is a Dapol issue Mogul.
I commenced with stage one as per the instructions
My first step was to prepaint in Hu21 the components.
Some steel on the rims
And then complete the sub assembly.
The kit has some flash but more annoyingly an abundance of ejector pin marks |

Well stage 2
I'm not sure what they call all those bits that connect the wheels on steam trains but I did think of a few new adjectives. However by the end of the night I succeded, though alas my wheels do not turn.
The next step should have been stage 3
However I opted for something simpler and commenced on the Boiler. Here I decided also to replace the moulded on rails with more realistic units. So I started with cutting out the sections where the brackets for the rails were.
Then used the gaps as guide to drill holes for the new brackets.
Next was to remove all the moulded rail detail. Some more cleaning up work still required.

This 'Steamy-Thing' building malarkey looks like it might be difficult!
Good to see you back on board Peter!
All the best

Ayup Pete...
Nice progress. I hope you don't feel like you've fallen out of the Loop mate !
From your destructions, i see you get a picture of what the drive train should look like. I wish the Stars had one, or was clearer. I wonder why Dapol felt the need to change the original format to their own. _________________ Airfix Member 022... Jolly Boy.

Hi Guy’s, sorry about the slow progress, my modeling is very much in small fits and starts.
Well the Mogul is back on the work bench.
From a local model boat shop (called Floataboat) I acquired some rail stanchions.
Suitably installed in the predrilled holes.
Then some brass rod bent around some dowel and the rails done.
Basic assembly of Coal tender completed.
Now sitting there with another coat of Hu21 waitng to dry. |

Instructions found
Main components now ready for assembly
And turning my attention to the tender. I was wondering how to do the orange striping. So out with the Tamiya tape and using the same procedure as for canopy framing.
Some Hu18
