Hi Chrisbh; have you found a model to make?

If so, please tell us.  :D

Hi Jesper.
I'm back in the plastic world and intend to build a Centurion which should be winging it's way to me shortly.

Some IT related snags mean I'm a bit short of images but I am well underway. I'm finding this build a tad frustrating as time is short at the moment and nothing seems to ft quite right.

Most of the assembly is now done, and everything's had a coat of paint so these images are a little behind the curve now:

I think I'm falling behind the curve here but some progress anyway:

Assembly now virtually complete, muzzle brake drilled out and some washing and dry brushing applied over a base coat of Hu86 rather than the Hu75 bronze green called for.

It's only disappointing because I'm lazy, but neither the instructions nor the box identify the vehicle's unit so a little research is required.

I doubt I'll be doing a great deal in the way of additions to this kit which I have to say I haven't got a great kick out of. Moulding and fit almost universally poor, and from what I have seen as references, I'm not convinced about accuracy either. On the up side, it has been fun experimenting with washes which I've not done before.

Pics thus far:

Yours aye,
Chris

Good or bad kit, I think you are making a great model.
And if you can learn some new ways to do it, that is just great.

Chris,

Now there is a very good question, one that has bothered me for a while ...

Does anybody know what unit the decals represent?

Nice job. I have one and am planning on doing it in IDF colours. I have been saving some Revell Merkava decals for the purpose. I like the desert colours. Another you don't see often, that I am planning, is an Iranian Chieftain. They got a lot of mileage out those AFVs.

all best
John

Hi mundster,

I originally planned to make an IDF representation too but was put off by the amount of modification that would be required and my limited time (and indeed ability) to do it. I really am almost finished with it now, I'd like to put a couple of aerials on it before posting into the gallery. I have another in the stash with which I may be more ambitious in due course.

Aye
Chris

Chris,

What modifications are needed?

I'm no purist, by any stretch, and I think the IDF version would just look nicer because, well, I like desert camo and I think it looks dirty better.

Additionally, the Israeli's (and Jordanians) got lots of real combat use out of their tanks, making them a little more interesting.

Did you ever determine what unit the decals are for?

The red and yellow flag is probably a Amoured Corps insignia.

I still can't find any mention of the yellow lion over the crown, on black.

I'm guessing its some unit that served with BOAR at some time during the 1960s (or later 50s) as this is when the kit would have been current.

all best
John
