Oh dear, never mind. Nobody has to "defend" themselves. I was simply stating some obvious facts about the afore-mentioned model, otherwise I don't see how we can progress. A mutual admiration club is fine but it doesn't achieve much! Sorry if it's a crime to point-out faults, I'll leave you to it.

Another example of what can be achieved

Two Mikes Resin make an after market intake set if anyone wishes to go down that route

Humm,

I think that mr. badger needs our assistance and support. As for the vulcan, yes it is old and needs some touching up and a few resin parts but it is a fine plane once built and quite an intimidating sight once together.  I built one years ago and have another in my stash soooo let's give the badger some support here.....

I am about to embark on this very model, XM607, and have been watching this thread with a keen eye...

Got more referencing pics and info than I probably know what to do with but have just one wee question for the paint gurus out there;

I have read about the underside being repainted specifically for the mission and that it was dark grey but, in Hu paints, what numbers are the best match?  Both for the underside and the camo?

I am keen to get this as right as i can in my young building career to date as it has family significance..

SAM June 2002 has a profile for XM597 with EDSG undersides which is Hu123 if memory serves.  This scheme is stated as being in use during the Black Buck missions which is what you are referring to?

XM607(c1981) has Light aircraft grey which is Hu 166
could have been changed for Black Buck

found those intakes and will be ordering them as soon as they are back in stock:

http://www.relishmodels.co.uk/two...avro-vulcan-seamless-intakes.html

I think just about every review of the kit mentions the poor quality of the intakes and, as 607 had 300 series engines, the exhausts should be OK

Yeh, my research says 597 took part in BB4 so I would imagine the colours would be the same(i hope?)

so does that make the camo sea grey and olive green?

Upper side of both XM597 and XM607 is given as
Dark Green Hu116 or 163
Medium sea grey Hu 165

Maybe slightly off topic but for anybody building the Vulcan which landed in Brazil it is now at the Scottish Aircraft Museum outside Edinburgh.Maybe someone on the forum has pictures.
