The Hurricane is well done and so are the Sherman's particularly where the weathering is concerned.

thanks to all.

I'm not sure how I feel about this latest one. 1/72 I-16 by Hasegawa, very drab and boring colors. Oh well, they can't all be winners

Hey Softscience

I agree with feanor the weathering and chipping is done very well.  I'd consider a kit with that quality of finish a winner :thumb: .

The ice has not been kind has it? 8-)
Cute, despite the drab colours. Like some librarians.

Thanks everyone. Your kind words are really appreciated.

Diddyman, my technique for chipping is to apply very tiny amounts of silver paint with a toothpick, and then kind of rub them out when they're starting to dry.  Two things, ok 3 things to remember

1) locate the chips in areas where they make sense and in those areas
2) keep things random....patterns will look very obvious
3) use acrylic paints - enamels will smear when you try to rub them off, whereas some of the acrylic will lift off

Finally, I follow up my chipping with a dust coat of flat-clear mixed with just a drop of light brown or sand, or in this case light green. This can also be done with a paintbrush

Ok, my next creation is the M6 anti-tank gun by Italeri (original Esci?) in 1/72 scale. This is my first attempt at figures that aren't covered by a canopy, some new skills had to be learned/are being learned in the process.

skill 1 - badly sculpted faces are a real bear to paint.

Skill 2 - take photos from far away :)

Image

The base is just some scrap particle board with some Sonoran Desert sand glued to it. Definately some hobbyist advantage to living where I do :)

I'm very happy with how this turned out.

The M6 looks excellent.  8-) I take it you didn't lower the suspension though?

I always find faces a pain to paint in this scale, but good sculpting does help.

Thanks for the useful chipping tips - will have to get some acrylic silver!

Alas I did not, after going through all the trouble to get everything lined up (quite a task on this kit), I didn't want to take it all apart to cut things down and have to line everything up once again

Cheers for the chipping tips, made a lot of sense.  I use sand from one of my local-ish beaches called Whitley Bay but always sterilise it first.

Fair enough for not lowering the kit, it can be a tad tricky. Another thing I will begin to do with my next Dodge Weapons Carriers is to thin down the mudguards as they are a tad thick.

Great build and good job on the figures even though they are a tad badly moulded.
