I'm undecided on the GW1, Italy '44, a Pacific Airfield or Germany '45. I went for GW1 as it could be an interesting subject - not many people cover it yet.
I'm guessing, like the 'Choose the subjet', the choices will be narrowed down in time?

I've opted for Operation Sealion
This would make an interesting subject. There are plenty of British buildings and accessories available (in 1:72) from model railway suppliers which would add to the overall picture, creating an interest to the viewer other than just the vehicles. Civilians could be featured as well as armed forces and it could be set in town or country - or maybe a bit of both _________________ and was Jerusalem, builded here

To be perfectly honest, I missed this thread completely. That's probably due to the obscure title!
Anyway, I've chosen Operation Sealion - well it was one of my two suggestions! It would make a change to see troops fighting amongst "British" ruins and rubble as opposed to Stalingrad or Berlin!

I haven't voted on this one as I usually only vote on Group Builds that I hope to take part in.
This project is a brave and mighty undertaking and as much as I would like to be part of it I will not commit myself to it as yet as I feel that I would be unable to give the necessary time required for such a project and would hate to make promises that I later find I am unable to keep.
I will mull this over and may change my mind before the 22nd November vote deadline
Cheers

Please feel free to vote, even if you cannot commit to any particular build I imagine this will be a long time in preparation and organisation before we even get round to which subjects will be proposed and who actually gets to build them _________________ and was Jerusalem, builded here

Well, I decided to vote for the Pacific airfield... Operation Sealion and Germany '45 seemed rather good too, problem is it's near impossible for me to get other British material than AFVs (which, in the Sealion case would be the Matilda, and nothing but Matilda...), and nowadays it's almost always Germany '45, so...
...
That, and my Japanese heritage, so... |

The concept behind the Operation Sealion proposal was that it would be a dio of Britain under Nazi rule, so German AFV's & softskins could sit alongside British vehicles suitably painted _________________ and was Jerusalem, builded here

Actually, my original thinking for Sealion was:
"Secondly, a "what-if" of a successful Operation Sealion landing with German forces fighting on the British mainland."
This is a bit different to being under Nazi rule which is too hideous a concept to even think about! Of course, each side could have weapons captured from each other making this idea a right old mix-and-match!

So will there be another poll between Operation Sealion, GW1 and a Pacific Airfield?
I'm not too bothered, I'm happy to go with an Operation Sealion one. _________________ Owen

Time to dust this off.
I don't think we need to go through yet another vote as it going to delay things even more. We have to be mindful that we have to discuss the design of the layout, delegation of tasks (i.e. who will be producing the actual bases), buying of materials, kits etc. I also think that more of us already have kits in our stash suitable for a European WW2 diorama than the other two as well. That should speed things up a bit.
So, I propose we proceed with the Sealion theme. We can always do the GW1 next and the Pacific Airfield one after that.

I'm all for a sealion theme.
I had an idea, so as to keep the bases of the diorama the same size, someone could make all of the bases/basic terrain all at once, and then send out each individual base to the necessary member. That way, all the bases would be the same size.
Also, what scale is this going to be in? A 1/35 scale one would be nice, but I guess 1/72 would be easier to model and more could be built in the space. _________________ Owen

Sealion sounds good to me
I'd say 1:72 ought to be the way to go 1:35 would be too limiting _________________ and was Jerusalem, builded here
