Hi all. I was interested to how many models you have on the go at the same time. I'm guessing some of you have a few on the go which I can understand, so you've always got something to be working on, whether it be prep, sanding, painting, while other models sit idle while waiting on paint drying etc.
Since being fairly new back to the hobby, I will only be tackling one at a time for now, mainly due to working space, but I realize this modelling lark can take over your life, and there's nothing worse than getting really stuck into something just for it to have to come to an end because you cannot continue for reasons mentioned above. Especially when you're 'in the zone' and it is only 1:30 on a Sunday afternoon! lol! Many more hours to be had, but not enough in a day. I am more than happy to spend hours just painting little pilots and I imagine most of you feel the same.
What are your thoughts on this? I'm intrigued

I currently work on one at a time becuase I'm one of these people that will do Everything all at the same time, modelling is something that I try not to do this on, just relax and concentrate on one thing at a time.

I usually end up working on two or three at at time, then think to myself, from now on I'm sticking to one at a time. Guess what happens when I start the next single kit... :airhead:

Usually have around four to five on the go at any one time, only because 'variety is the spice of life' and it prevents me from getting bored with a subject although two of mine have been going for a while now. (The tie fighters and my Stuig 33 conversion, although the tracks have now arrived for that one so there may be more progress soon)

At the moment I have three, but I've been known to have up to eight 'on the go' at once.

I usually have only 1 on the go at any one time - especially in 1/48. However, if there are, say, 2 good colour schemes for  a kit, then I might double-up. This is what I did for the new 1/72 Spitfire IX.

Currently, I am building the new SHAR FRS1 & FA2 side-by-side. These are, of course, very similar kits.

Ayup Griff...

Hi Bruv. (how are you Nige ?)

I've usually got any amount on the go at any one time due to GBs, stalled builds, builds I'm 'Taking my time on' and builds for others in between.

What usually happens is that I get 'Stuck' on an aspect of a build and have to move on to another, until that stalls, & so on. at the moment, I'm firing on all Cylinders, determined to get some more Finished builds on the Boards...

But Other Models do creep in, like Henry, but the momentum from Anne is high, and so is my determination.

I usually do one at a time, but sometimes I'll do two similar kits together- painting the parts for one, then the other, by which time the parts are dry on the first kit so it is ready for assembly... and so on.

I did this with my 1:48 Hurri and Spit last weekend and polished them both off between Friday evening and Sunday afternoon! Perhaps I should take my time more...

Only one at a time usually but sometimes can do the odd in between OOB during a scratchy one. I'm tempted at the moment to knock off a Tamiya Panther ausf G just to relieve the complexities of the Centurion ARK.

I was supposed to be building an RC destroyer, but...
The churchill bridge builder looked nice in the shop...
and then maybe I'll try the sherman whilst i'm waiting for the paint to dry ...
but I need to build this Spitfire for a competition so i'll start that...
now I'm bored of the churchill and the sherman is finished...
that spitfire VB on floats is making hopeful noises from the stash i'll have a go...
Ooh a Dragon wagon for my birthday lets get started...

Hey all

I try to have no more then 3 on the go at once and no less then 2.  This is so I don't get swamped by builds (or tough builds don't get neglected) but also so I've always got something to do if one is doing something that takes sometime (setting, drying, ect).

In my mind it's like three draws a new kit can only be put into a draw once a current one has been finished.  Every so often I will start a GB build when a previous build is at the decaling stage breifly pushing the started builds to 4 but I try not to do this too often.

If I only did one build at a time then in the last 6 months I would only have just completed 2 builds!

One at a time as far as possible - that way I finish and can let the monomania free. :)
Sometimes, like Stu, I'll squeeze in something quick and easy to take the pressure off a long build.
I have a couple of stalled builds that for one reason or another have gone back in boxes and been put aside - I don't consider them 'in progress' any more once that happens. :(

I envy those who can work on one at a time and concentrate on a completion.

I'm falling very foul of the errors of not proceeding in that manner. I have :
a 1:144 Boeing Clipper started sometime last November, I think. It has some paint on. It still needs a complete coat of Dark Earth even, before it gets dark green camo, so it's looking very patchy;
A 1:144 DH Comet. Started probably about a year ago. Currently being painted white. Taking some time to iron out the wrinkles in the upper fuselage seam that can't be seen until it goes glossy. That one isn't bothering me too much.
A 1:72 Hase Fw 190D-9. Started (with one of my sons) in 2006. Reconstructed a little, and repainted a little. Needs a bit of painting yet.
A 1:72 Douglas Devastator. Should have been finished for yesterday. Still working on some interior details before closing it up. These will not likely be seen unless I get Falcon canopy - which I thought I already had. Wrong.
A 1:9 BMW R.69. Lovely subject. A few niggles with the kit. Will be finished soon.
Two 1:72 Hawker Hunters. One nearly finished. A bit of assembly still required (not much). Pilot needs painting and cementing in place. Canopy needs masking and I think we're just about good to go then with that one.
A 1:72 Matchbox Halifax. This is the one that's bugging me. I painted the fuselage interior last week or so. In clearing up afterwards, I don't know how, but one of the fuselage halves didn't make it back into the box. Not the right box, anyway, and I only worked that out today when I was spraying the exterior.
A 1:32 P-40E.
A 1:35 Tasca Sherman II (Early)
A 1:72 Millennium Falcon
A 1:72 Albatros DIII
A 1:72 Fokker Dr. 1
A 1:72 P-51D
A 1:32 Hawker Hunter
A 1:72 Bristol Beaufighter (nearly finished)
A 1:72 NA Fury FJ-1
A 1:72 Kawanishi J7-W1 Shinden
A 1:48 Fw 190D
A 1:48 Ta 152H-0
2x 1:72 DH Mosquitos
A 1:32 Hawker Typhoon
A 1:72 He 115

On the backburner (i.e. not worked on in a few months):
1:35 Jagdtiger
1:35 T-34/76
1:35 T-34/85
1:35 Nashorn
1:48 P-51A
1:48 P-51D
1:72 Wessex
1:72 Gazelle
1:72 Hawker Tempest Mk I
1:35 PaK 40
1:35 FlaK 38
1:35 JS II
HO/OO Harrow
and more, but I've said enough to embarrass myself now.

I used to have 3 or 4 on the go at once. The record was 8, I think. But now, with a little nipper, that has reduced to one at a time. I only ever have time for 15 or 20 minutes at any one time and at that rate progress on more than one is at geological rates.

Dan
