Cool - you've got the convertible version with the removable hood - mine's only the coupe

Looks like you're going to make it just in time!

Thanks, all.

The cabin is firmly fixed in placed now. I did make the mistake of dry-fitting it in it's place and forgot to glue it before rigging! It was an easy matter of lifting it off and running some glue along the bottom with a cocktail stick. One thing I did find out was that I should have left the rigging of the guardrails to the very end as I broke some of them when rigging the mast. It will be simple to fix though.

Originally, I used glue for the rigging above the cabin, but replaced it with thread. It has proved to be very difficult to tighten so I may replace the thread with glue once again!

Here you can see the re-located lifebelts attached to the guardrails. Note that the lifebelts are all red and not red/white.

It's proving rather difficult to photograph this thing so that you can see the rigging properly!

Things to do now:

Replace ropes on foc'sle
Tidy up rigging and paint H64, paint mast H33 where rigging has been glued in place.
Apply decals and flag (although the flag with the kit is awful and I will have to print out a better one - when my printer is fixed).

The number of differences between my build and yours is mounting up - I'm just going to assume that all of the things on yours are right, as you've done research and I haven't!

I notice, though, that you haven't painted the ladder/boat hook handles in whatever vaguely wood-ish colour takes your fancy?

I'm glad it looks different from the kit as that was the intention. Virtually every change that I made, were applicable to S11 though. The only wholly fictitious part is the glueing of the dinghies to the depth charge rail supports. The supports should not be there at all but I liked using them to put the dinghies on. The dinghies can be positioned almost anywhere on these boats but I used the stern as there was a big gap where the depth charges would have gone.

I didn't find a single picture of S11 with the lifebelts in the positions shown in the instructions so I chose to go with the location shown as I have pictures showing S-Boats with them there. Should they not be right for S11, then the build suddenly becomes a "what-if"!

As for the ladders/boathooks, it was a conscious decision to paint the ladders H64 but I admit that the boathooks were completely missed. This was probably caused by my having not read the painting instructions on the last page. In mitigation, I would say that they don't look like any boathook I've ever seen! The ladders will be remaining H64 but I guess I'd better paint the so-called "boathooks" - now that somebody has pointed them out. They won't be H74 as that is too bright. I'll probably go with a dark brown, such as H29.

BTW, talking of boathooks, I had intended to add two boathooks each side of the foc'sle! Something I else forgot to do. That's what happens when you make notes on what the build will entail and then don't bother to read the notes fully!

Dave

I wouldn't worry about not putting boat hooks on the foc'sle, if only because I don't have the foggiest idea what a foc'sle is. I was feeling smug because I'd managed to use a term as technical as 'boat hook'

The foc'sle is the deck at the pointed end. . The additional boathooks were to have been attached to the guard rails alongside the torpedo tubes as you can see in this picture of S11.

I have now painted the boathooks. After painting them, I thought that the ladders had better be painted otherwise they will be pointed out again and again... It was rather fiddly and did mean removing the lower guardrails.

Rigging now tidied up and painted black.

Kit flag glued to aluminium foil.

Flag folded over with thread in crease.

A piece of .9mm thread was coiled on a piece of glass, superglue soaked into it and left to dry. Then it was cut off the glass and glued to foc'sle to replace over-sized moulding. A piece of chain (left over from a Heller 1/400 ship build) was added to anchor and trailed back to winch.

The decals and flag were fitted in place to complete the build!!!

She's a beauty Dave. I'm definitely going to steal the flag idea!

Of course, it's the ladders and boat hooks that finish it off so nicely

Phwoarr!

Another Cracker Dave, you've finished it really nicely.

You must be doubting weather you should go back to 1/600! It's brilliant

Thank you everybody!

I have a confession now! I was on the phone a few minutes ago and looked up at the S-Boat sitting on the shelf and saw I had put the flag on upside-down! Still, as it is only a temporary flag then I can put up with it for now - even if it is annoying me!

Dave

[Edit: Actually, I couldn't put up with it and have just put it the right way up!]
