OK, I started placing posts in the 'models on the go at the mo' thread to galvanise and shame me into finishing half built kits and it seems to have worked. In the 6 days since I first posted I've knocked 2 off the list  :D  but then discovered 3 more that I'd forgotten about  :( . I'm going to keep posting updates here in the hope that I'll continue to embarass my self into finishing my builds   .

The opening list and the stage of construction reached in this thread, continued from the 'models on the go at the mo', reads:

Airfix 1/72 N.A. OV-10A Bronco - started the varnishing.
Airfix 1/72 British Aerospace Harrier GR Mk.3 - started applying Klear ready for all the decals and then the varnishing.
Airfix 1/48 Hellcat - just the varnishing.
Airfix 1/48 Sea Harrier - a small repair and then the varnishing.
Airfix 54mm French Line Infantryman - last of the parts, some touching up of the paintwork and mounting on the base.
Airfix OO/HO Panzer IV tank - only started some of the construction.
Airfix 1/72 M.R.C.A - finish off the paintwork, all the decals and then varnishing.
Airfix 1/72 Kittyhawk - requires a new set of decals as the original set were defective, need to request them from Airfix.

I hope to  make some progress tonight.

Just a quick note -- the Airfix Panzer IV is 1/76, not 1/72, no matter what it might say on the box. :)

Otherwise it looks like you'll be kept fairly busy for a little while at least!

I've decided to colour code each one so I can see at a glance how I've getting on.

Green = Moved forward. Orange = Stayed still. Red = Moved backwards.

Airfix 1/72 N.A. OV-10A Bronco - applied more varnish.
Airfix 1/72 British Aerospace Harrier GR Mk.3 - was applying some Klear and one part of the undercarriage fell off. It's been glued back on but I'll have to leave it to dry before I can continue.
Airfix 1/48 Hellcat.
Airfix 1/48 Sea Harrier.
Airfix 54mm French Line Infantryman.
Airfix OO/HO Panzer IV tank - while I had the glue out I did some  more initial construction.
Airfix 1/72 M.R.C.A.
Airfix 1/72 Kittyhawk.

I hope to make some more progress tomorrow.

Duly noted, it's a pre Hornby Airfix box. Being a child of the sixties I'll mark all Airfix AFVs range (regardless of the era) OO/HO.

Yes but I should've finished them as I went along, shame on me  :hithead: . Still this thread seems to be helping me catch up. I just need to resist the urge to start another one until I've finished some of these  :nailbite: . I've decided that I need to finish two before I can commence another. That's the theory but in practice   .

From now on as a point of reference for the kits I've started but never finished as I dig out the kits I'll post a picture of them at the stage I'm picking up from and then post links to the finished articles when they're complete.

For the kits I'm starting from new I'll post various pictures of them as I go along.

Blue = Finished. Green = Moved forward. Orange = Stayed still. Red = Moved backwards.

Progress today:

Airfix 1/72 Harrier GR3 - the underwing weapons loads have been fitted and the kit is now complete. This kit was done as part of a group build.

Pictures of this can be seen in the relevant threads by clicking on the links below.

Image

Airfix OO/HO Panzer IV tank - I need to finish the primer coat of paint, complete the overall paint schemes, fit the remaining parts, apply coats of Klear, apply the decals, apply another coat of Klear and varnish the finished article.

Thanks Chris. I think the gloss finish you see in the picture makes it look a bit like a diecast model so I'm matt varnishing it. I've just had a look after letting what I've done dry overnight. It looks good but will need two coats.

Must say I like your system of placingthe painted parts in blu-tac on the box top.  Makes it look like a forest machine parts :) .

You work so neatly james.

My work area can best be discribed as organized chaos, where i will cut off a part and not be able to find it a minute later due to bad memory and fading eyesite, plus the endless clutter of tools, paints and glues lying about.

Thank you, John.

I find it makes painting the small parts so much easier than doing so on the sprue. It also keeps all the small  parts together. All the parts still to be used are kept in the relevant box along with the decals and instructions. Using this method I can keep each build seperate from each other whilst knowing that everything relevant to that build is in the same place. As the build progresses and I have larger items I keep them on the green mat. I daren't buy another mat for fear of having even more builds on the go at one time !

Thank you, Chris.

Although fairly organized I do find that I'm naturally quite an untidy person so a spot of self discipline has to be exercised.

Also the past experience of several kits on the go at one time with parts, tools, paints, instructions, decal sheets, etc. strewn everywhere has resulted in parts getting mixed up and then shoved in boxes and not finished (the result of my over zealous but somewhat haphazard return to the hobby) has led to quite a few unfinished builds which, with the help of this thread, I'm working my way through as I rediscover them in the numerous storage boxes in the loft.

Thank you, Paul.

I've had a bit of time on my hands what with the holiday period and it's enabled me to root out some unfinished kits and make some progress on them. That's four off the list and some good progress made on one other since I started this thread  :D  (although I have submitted to temptation and 'rewarded' myself by starting the Sea Fury   ). The idea is that by listing them it motivates me into finishing them and it seems to be working  :thumb:  (so far  :? )

Hats off to the administration team for thinking up the idea of individual threads  :notworthy: .

There does seem to be a lot of positive feedback on the blue tack idea. Hopefully people will find the idea as useful as I have.
