I think I have discovered a new law of quantum physics. I will name it 'Gerry's First Law of Exhibitions'. This law addresses a conundrum relating to the need for an extra quantity (hence quantum) of storage space before an exhibition compared to what is needed after an exhibition. It seems to grow exponentially. In essence, this law is as follows: post exhibition space (pes) = original space (os) + e (the exhibition factor).

The problem is in identifying the separate components of 'e' in the pes. One part of 'e' is easily explained and calls for no further research. This is the simple triangular relationship between wants (w), bargains (b) and additional space (as) where as/e = w + b(n). But that only solves part of the problem as it still leaves the question of post exhibition space that seems to be caused by no obvious factor. This is the equivalent to questions of dark matter - what is it, how much of it is there, where is it? Is there a missing force?

Somehow, once models are taken out of boxes or off shelves to go to an exhibition, the return storage space (rss) expands. What is causing this expansion? One hypothesis is that it happens because of the selection of models (sm) coupled with loss of memory (lm) as to where they came from, i.e. where rss =  os + (sm - lm). Another could be that the models have sensed freedom and just refuse to be crammed back. This has a parallel in the conundrum of trying to put an umbrella or a tent back into their original containers.

Whatever the reason, post-Yeovilton, I am now left with a box of models for which I have no storage space and I don't know why.

Ayup Gerry...

That's because they're from the next table...

Didn't think of that - presumably doubled if one is in the middle of a row of tables. At Yeovilton, we were under Concorde's wing and beside a P1127. At least they did not get into my boxes, though I was rather tempted by the Pegasus engine that I tried to convince some people that I had built. They didn't believe me, mainly because the weathering on it was a bit extreme.
