The Italerai kits are usually one traditional style me kit and one fastbuild in the double packs. If you want to read reviews on most of the Armourfast range (as well as many other 1/72 armour kits) visit the On The Way website.

Err.....No they ain't!  :!:

Only two kits were released in this format IIRC; the IS-2 and the ISU-152 and these were a limited edition (although quite a big one) release.

Most Italeri kits these days are two QB kits per box.  They're of about the same quality as Armorfast or Pegasus, ie: OK if you like that sort of thing.....Which I don't.

The main difference between quick build and slow kind is the suspension and the lack of the little bits (Headlights, tools)

Considering that most regular kits produced before 1975 or so are missing the little bits; big deal.

Try the new quick-build Zvezda Tiger.  It's easily as well detailed as the Revell kit.  With modern mold undercutting you can't tell the difference between molded on and seperate tools anymore (unless you have OCD and AMS  :P

Some Trumpeter 1/72 armor kits have two different types of suspensions; a traditional build and a quick one piece build.  Even some of the first Dragon kits had simpler one piece suspensions.

I used to superdetail old Roco kits which were total blank slates.  Armorfast are much better.

Problem is, over here the RRP of the Zvezda Tiger is only 49p (or thereabouts) lower than that of the Revell kit, but the Revell kit offers many more options to the builder.  :?

They're three different versions.

First production (handful to 501 or 502 sch Pz battalions), early production (Tunisa, Sicily and Kursk) and mid-late production (1944-45).

And the Zvezda is the Bovington Tiger.  :D

It took a bit of cutting and modification to make a Kursk Tiger out of the Revell First production.

The Revell Tigers have lots of pesky suspension pieces and L&L tracks whereas the Zvezda is easy assembly with few pieces but really captures the complex suspension in a way no easy assembly kits have until now.

I dunno.....The QB parts in the Trumpeter IS-3 were pretty impressive.  Both this kit and the recent Zvezda releases are a step above the run of the mill QB kits, but they are priced accordingly.

Here is the Zvezda Tiger - out of the box and not yet painted.

Image

It is an amazing piece of engineering but as Sarge says, it's not cheap (at least in the UK). It also suffers from a few compromises to make it snap together. Now quick build I can understand but snap together I don't get in a model of this level of detail. Must paint it some time.

I've just received their Flak 36 20mm AA gun.

It appears to be beautifully detailed for a QB kit, but once again the details are actually somewhat simplified for ease of build.  It's an excellent compromise and as it also comes with two nice crew figures, excellent value at about £3.

I really like what Zvezda are doing with these kits, but the tanks are just a bit too costly in my opinion.....If they were to put a crewman or two or even half a dozen tank-riders in each box I'd snap 'em up!

As this is the Airfix Tribute Forum, thought I'd pay tribute to Airfix for spotting the quick build, snap together AFV market back in the 60s. Here's one of my favourite of the whole series, the Centurion Tank (needed a capital T :)):

Of course, some of the series can now fetch a lot more money than a Zvezda Tiger  :D

That just about says it all regarding QB kits, in my opinion.  :|

:rotfl: I'll not bother going into the attic to find the rest of the collection then, Sarge!  :D

Well look at it.....It's just about the same as the current Italeri QB kits and it's older than I am!

The current retail price of an Italeri QB set is about a tenner.....Frankly I reckon that's a bit steep!  :|

But they are great for kids or for airbrush practice and they're tolerable for use on the wargaming table.  :?

What bothers me is that Italeri have apparently completely abandoned proper 1/72 scale kits in favour of this tat.  Their (similarly priced) Stalin and ISUs were wonderful kits, but of course they would have cost an awful lot more money to tool up for than these damned things.  Franly I think Italeri are taking their punters for mugs.....They are far from alone in this.  :x

All the best

I share your concern that QB may come to dominate the mainstream braille scale market if Italeri is anything to go by. Would be a sad day :(

Well Airfix appear to be capable of turning out two proper kits for a lower price.....Good job Airfix!  :thumb:

Now all we need is for them to do them in the right scale!
