Fantastic work Dave. Seeing your PE work is giving me the urge to get some of the stuff and give it a go

It makes my eyes water to think how small some of those PE bits are. Do you use a magnifying glass or are you from Krypton?

They do make the ship pop a bit and like Pops, my reluctance to try PE is slowly vanishing.

Very nice work, that PE certainly makes a difference.  :thumb:

Thanks all.

This is only the fourth time I have used PE in 1/600 - the other three builds (Moskva, HMS Amazon and HMS Manxman) have all stalled due to PE-itis! Hope I can finish this one!

But you've got us all excited now and wanting to try it too! Think of all the sales WEM will lose out on if you give up!

Dave

Did WEM show where to put the doors in your PE set? In mine there are ample doors but no indication where to put them on the model.

Hi Teabee,

No, WEM did not show where to put the doors. The set with the doors is a generic set to be used on any ships. I used photos to locate some door positions and guessed the remainder!

Frustrating isn't Dave? I did the same. The doors do make a nice addition.

More PE now

Constructing the 286 Gunnery Radar Yagi Antenna. First of all the stays were bent around a piece of plastic card:
Image

Then the dapoles were glued within the stays and the assembly stuck on it's support arms which was then stuck on the director (Part 94). Also pictured are the PE rangefinders fitted on the bridge wings, replacing kit parts (87 and 88).

Folding four ladders:

Ladders in position although the two by the hangar are a bit too long and need cutting down:

Another four ladders ready to bend into shape:

In place on the quarterdeck:

The two forward ladders in position:

Two cranes assembled and fitted to cabs:

I fitted the cross bracing to the underside of the Shelter Deck:

Unfortunately, the second set were too wide and had to be replaced by singles so that locating holes for davits were not obscured:

Part of forward superstructure assembled:

Work started on two whalers, showing the tiny oars and rudders:

Thanks all.

I have just spent six hours mucking about with PE railings for this thing and it has driven me mad!

Here I have cut railings to length to fit the Focsle back to midships and from midships to the Quarterdeck. You can see where I have removed part of the railings to clear deck fittings. In the background on the cutting mat are the Quarterdeck railings shaped and ready to fit:
Image

Railings being fitted to port side forward. The foremost section has already been glued and the next section has been pulled to one side for the next lot of glue:
Image

There are various gaps for the Shelter Deck cross bracing to go. I managed to completely destroy some of the fitted railings and had to remove the entire port side railing forward and cut a new piece:
Image

Here are the Quarterdeck railings in position:
Image

Finally started painting with H27 Sea Grey:
Image

All decks have now received their first coat of H27 Sea Grey:

More work now:

Just spent more time fitting railings to the top of the hangar and aft superstructure:
Image

I also fitted two motor launches and gave the H27 Sea Grey a second coat on the main decks:
Image

And on the other ones. I also started the painting of the Walrus:
