Here's another manufacturer to pick up the 1/600 mantel.

I've ordered the kit as its pretty cheap. Interesting how this shop is calling the kit a 3D puzzle!

Looks quite interesting. Judging by the single piece hull and the shape of the sprues, it's not based on the Airfix kit either.

Looks a lot like the Otaki/Arii 1/600th scale battleship kits.  Yamato/Musashi and Reconstructed US Iowas.

Pic 4 on the site seems to have an electric motor on the right side

Does it look broad enough in the beam
I know Airfix's is too skinny, but this doesn't look much wider  :juggle:

I did see a thread on FSM referring to S-Mars ships as 'bathtub toys'. The Bismarck is motorised and takes an 'AA' battery, if you're that way inclined...

Depending on the revolutions it puts out, having it in a bathtub could be a bit dicey!

Did you receive the kit yet?

I am intrigued by it too and was thinking of ordering but would like to get your opinions first.

Yes, I got the kit a while ago. I had left it sealed, but as you're interested I've opened it up to see what its like. I was immediately disappointed to see the flat bottomed hull. The quality of the parts seems OK, but I don't know how accurate they are. There are some sink marks about. The date on the sprues is 1 June 1997, so the kit is a lot older than I thought. The hull is 413 mm long which is close to 1/600 scale (1/607 for a 250.5 m length). The beam is 60 mm which is exactly 1/600 scale.

An electric motor and stand are included as well. There is no option to replace the large single propeller with accurate propellers. Probably best to make this a waterline model, unless you want to have a bathtub toy! :-)

Wow! Thanks for opening it up for a look. On the basis of what you say and the pictures it does seems disapointing kit. I was hoping for a better rendition than the Airfix kit, which, because I only model in 600 scale, remains the only game in town.

Thanks heaps again!

Hi all, from the pictures that looks like a possible upscaled re-release of the old Nichimo 30cm series kit (motor actuator and gear box cover plus the layout of the parts) although their hulls split at the waterline, which would put it way older than 1997, but I could be wrong.
