Mop_the_Panda's build can be followed in this thread.

Let us all know your build selection David.

Along with a few other members, I think I will be doing the Bf-110C from the new kit  :)

I am going to experiment a little with the finish though - keen to try out something I saw in a magazine build

EDIT:
Might add in a Henschel 123A as well - or maybe even just swap to that one.

decisions, decisions ....

Change of mind (again!) ....

I will have ended up doing 3 GBs at the same time plus have a pair of JU-52s on the go, so don't want to push it too far with a brand new (to me) painting technique, rush it and muck it up, so I am going to instead build the Petlyakov PE-2 OOB

Welcome to my PE-2 Build  :) ...

Airfix Summary: "The Pe-2 quickly proved itself to be a highly capable aircraft, able to elude the Luftwaffe's interceptors and allowing their crews to develop great accuracy with their bombing. Throughout 1942 the design was steadily refined and improved, in direct consultation with pilots who were actually flying them in combat"

Some interesting info from Wikipedia on the PE-2

Here is my Boxing and bagged kit - I think the tool itself is pretty old.  Mine is the latest 'Red Box' version
Image

Instructions for the kit are below:
PE-2-Instructions 1
PE-2-Instructions 2
PE-2-Instructions 3
PE-2-Instructions 4
PE-2-Instructions 5

Here are the sprues ...

Image

Image

There is a fair amount of flash evident that spread between parts, but the mouldings look pretty crisp  :)
Not tried any trial fittings yet - parts just drying after initial soapy wash and rinse.

Always liked this aircraft but it's one of the few of the older Airfix kits I've never built. Look forward to following this one.

The builds I have seen on the ATF show that this kit can build into a very nice model, so I am hoping to do the old girl justice  :)

Like you, realthing, for some reason I have never built this before despite being a avid Airfix modeller in the past

Started on the cabin, as usual, for this kit.

Painted the inside of the crew area and assembled the seating.
With the large glass area under the front of the PE-2, there is a lot of the inside of the cabin area potentially visible here, which meant 2 simple changes to the standard instructions ...

1) little bit of plastic card to cover up the slots where the seats and control stick push into.
2) swap the supplied pilot with a fella with a full complement of legs, as his boots will be visible underneath.

Image

Slight mishap as I was doing some touching up in this assembly - dropped the whole lot into a jamjar of white spirit as I was tocuhing up the pilots uniform    (guess he ran out of vodka! :) )

Also made a start on the masking of the glass.
Image

PE-2 now left to dry before fitting the fuselage together in the next stage  :D

Put most of the PE-2 Together now.

Not looking too bad, but got some gaps to fill, and tried 3 different techniques ....

1) Tippex (white stuff)
2) Squadron Green Putty and Nail Polish Remover to smooth (green stuff)
3) Revell Plasto Putty (grey stuff)

Used the tippex for the top seam along the fuselage  -still not quite got the hang of this method - seems to go a bit flaky.

Used Green Putty and Polish Remover as per this site
Used it on the lower Wing-Fuselage joins. Didn't get as clean results as the author there, but pretty good.  The Green Putty seems very dry and never used it before, so with a bit more familiarity, hoping for good things  :D
The Revell Plasto is what I usually use for filling and I used on the Upper Wing-Fuselage seams. I decided to try the nail polish remover method with it.  BIG mistake!  Made everything  'claggy' and also seemed to react with the plastic a bit  :?

After the clean ups, this is my current status on the PE-2
<img src=http://i1125.photobucket.com/albums/l586/Mop_the_Panda/Models/Airfix%20-%20PE-2/PE-2-TopFilled.jpg width=800>
<img src=http://i1125.photobucket.com/albums/l586/Mop_the_Panda/Models/Airfix%20-%20PE-2/Pe-2-BottomFilled.jpg width=800>

Next step: Got the undercarriage to complete, plus Engine Nacelles and the bomb fittings before the primer gets shot.
(Going to fit the airbrakes into place once the aircraft has its final lower coat rather then have them 'working')

Not got any more photos to post yet, but the build is pretty much complete now  :)   Just need to fit the Undercariage sections to the plane and the ariels etc.

Paint wise, She has been primed and has the first coat of Aircraft Blue on the underside.  Using Enamels on this build, so will be a few days before the whole aeroplane is painted :thumb:

That's lookin' real good David, a nice change of pace, for me at least. The lines look very Bf-110ish. I wonder.......

I think the PE2 owes more to the French Potez 63 series and the Leo & Olivier light bomber

The PE-2 is a nice looking 'bird I think  :)

Did the first colour (Green Hu-80) on the top side last night and the 2nd colour (Black Hu-33) to portray her as being in service in the earlyish part of the 'Great Patriotic War'.

As the PE-2 I am building will (in my imaginary world)  have been operating in Kryelia by the Finnish-Russian border in wintertime (have a few land items to add in for a little winter Diorama   ), I am tempted to do a whitewash over the top as well - might decide on that depending on how well the camo has come out (looking just only ok right now, but maybe after the 2nd coat ......)

Just about finished my PE-2 - just got the props to fit, plus the Exhausts and the top ariel.

Made a bit of a silly mismake I think on the tail section and reversed the elevators so they slightly drop down rather then rise     Only found out when the tailwheel was not actually on the ground
But c'est la vie, not gonna change them now  :)

Here she is after the Decals fitted (just the 6 Red Stars) and another coat of Quick Shine applied (and still drying)

Thanks chaps  :)
There are a couple of awkward bits - like the position of the top and bottom rear guns make it very hard to paint, but it it is a nice kit and a real nice looking aircraft as well  :)

I'll be getting another for sure to make in an alternative scheme :thumb:
