I'll be up for this one as part of my occasional AEW theme, I want to build all the British AEW aircraft in 1/72 scale barring the Nimrod as this did not enter service.  I have the Sea King in my stash, I've also got the Aeroclub Gannet and shackleton conversions which I will use with the Revell kits and have already built the Skyraider to start the set but the Airfix AWACS may be difficult to find now, time will tell- it may turn up at a show.

I have another one of these in the stash. When Ratch sent me the review kit I had one already on order via the flying hours scheme.

Just ordered the AEW.Mk2/ASaC.Mk7 from Squadron.  Although I have read the horror stories of the fit I am game for the group build.  Squadron putty primed and ready!

I'm toying with do I use mine for this - or as I was thinking - stuff different decals on it and make it the yellow one. . . . and use that for the other group build.
mmmm decision time . . .

Waiting to go on this one, this will be part of a set of British AEW aircraft that I occasionally work towards.

David.

Well the box is open, it will be finished with the kit decals as XV714 of 849 NAS, HMS Illustrious 1988.

The first task will be to de-rivet the fuselage before starting the build.

David.

The rivets are all now gone and I am reworking the radome with miliput to represent a partially deflated unit without the cost of a resin part.

Rather than fill around the nose glazing after assembly I taped the halves together and added strips of evergreen plastic to remove the gaps in the nose.

The plastic on yours looks or at least appears to be reasonable David.  The beast I will be taming for the resue build is pretty poor - more akin to that which Mr Weir showed in his previous Chinoor build

The nose fits together now but it had the same gaps as the one in the build Review, It was flash free but the instruction were still wrong as per the review and is another example of a missed opportunity- if they had reintroduced the original USN parts it could be sold as a multi version kit  with USN Apollo Recovery and British AEW2, HAR5 & ASaC7 versions all in one box.

It has the USN parts with it   You can also make the Sea King HAS1 and 2 from the parts which MPC produced when they re boxed the kit.

Mine had similar flash to Chris's The mould steel plate has worn away in places or been dropped as some of the flash has formed into weird solid shapes with the plastic finding holes to fill on the plate.

However on dry fitting it, there was no gap in the nose but there were issues again with the windscreen.
